SANTA MONICA (KABC) -- Police say an explosion near Santa Monica aynagogue was caused by some type of mechanical failure and not any type of bomb.
Authorities from the Santa Monica and LAPD bomb squad remain at the scene.
The blast was reported about 6:45 a.m. in the 1400 block of 18th Street, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

What kind of mechanical failure causes that kind of explosion?
A spark spreading from a fuse to the bomb.
The have had a rash of mechanical explosions in Israel.
I used to go to that shul. I know it is foolish, but they are very disorganized and could have something like a heat vent from the kitchen blow from a grease build up.
Who knows? Pipe bomb? Could have been a pipe- filled with crap that never got cleaned.
Having said that, there are a LOT of Jew haters in Santa Monica. I used to get insults from somebody over there at least once a week. You never know.
