Well scummy General Electric said they had gas turbine back up power in the US they were ready to ship. It should have been air cargoed overnight on IL-76 choppers.
They could have done hot drop using a C-17 that could dusted off. This is when Hillary said the Air Force delivered cooant. She knows about hot drops in war torn areas in C-130 while taking incoming fire and RPGs.
They could have used chinooks and Russian heavy lift choppers to get those gas turbine powerplants there..
GE is a scum company with their defective reactors. A Obama TARP company.
GE was busy spending their TARP money on hookers.
Yes, because that leads to good ratings. An added benefit to them is a further discrediting of nuclear power so the movement to build more plants here in the effort to become energy independent is also discredited. i.e. To them it makes Palin look bad and the greenies look good
I don't know if they spent their TARP money on hookers, but they are looking like a scum company...
Here's what the Japanese think of Greens:
That was what jumped out at me. The .001 value could be anything, even a single scintillation in the detector in a single 24 hour period, to 100 scintillations in a 24 hour period.
It was so vague it made me actually laugh. But heck, someone might not get that impression by looking at it. Kind of like that other 750 rad west coast exposure graph.
And yet we have people here on FR hyping that caca.
I hate seeing innumeracy and lack of critical thinking getting even a bit of traction here at FR.
Sounds more like they need to run a garden hose out there more than a power line.
He is pink not maroon
Our media can say what they will about the Japanese response, but there have been a lot of unsung heroes fighting these fires, installing the power lines and whatever else it takes to get the cooling systems working again. Heroes much like the Firefighters climbing the steps of the World Trade Center, knowing that they could be sacrificing their lives to save their countrymen. These Japanese workers know they face a huge chance of being exposed to a deadly or debilitating level of radiation yet they go.
That's one small step for man, one giant leap forward for mankind.
A baby starts out crawling, then walking, and eventually running.
Cherynobyl very early on had the roof of the containment building on fire and the graphite in the core on fire.
Of course, if you think like Chicken Little and Al Gore, I might have some kitten graphics for you...
Can you imagine the blizzard of lawsuits you’d occassion if you tried to do something like this in the United States? Apart from all the lawsuits against everybody, joint and several, courts would be issuing injunctions like there was no tomorrow. And in this overlawyered maybe there won’t be.
The problem is threefold:
1.) People don’t know or understand radiation.
2.) People are very afraid and concerned about radiation.
3.) Information from the site is sketchy.
Each single one of these things is completely and 100% true (#2 is based in reality, radiation is nothing to sneeze at in the appropriate circumstances) but when thrown in together and thoroughly mixed, it creates everything from unmitigated panic to harebrained schemes (such as nuking the site to protect us all, as advanced right here on FR)
It is disheartening, but understandable. I am constantly reminded of a quote from the character played by Tommy Lee Jones in “Men in Black”: “A *person* is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it.”
There is truth in that, and for different situations, any one of us can fit that description. All it takes is the right situation, and radioactivity is one of the most common ones.
I am trying to be charitable.
Forgive me for using wiki as a reference.
At some point it is impossible to tell the difference between incompetence and malice. Or maybe just having a little fun with the rubes.
Only for brief minutes have the dose rates between the reactors achieved even that of a CAT scan. (From your own reference). That dramatic plume headed for the US will be diluted many thousands of times from even that level.
You have more patience than I. I’ve been watching it go on for 3-4 days, and have lost all charity on this issue.
I would add 4) and 5) to your list.
4) The Don Henley Media Factor, as in “We got the bubbleheaded bleach-blonde, comes on at 5. She can tell you about the plane crash with a gleam in her eye. It’s interesting when people die, give us dirty laundry.” I don’t think that requires any more explanation.
5) The H.L. Mencken Government Factor, as in “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.” While this event is quite serious, and not imaginary, neither is it, at least yet, as serious as some in gov’t have portrayed it. And Obama’s people are as anti-nuclear as they come. They are certainly not letting a crisis go to waster.
“Panic-mongering remains profitable.”
So does burying ones head in the sand and mindlessly chanting “there is nothing wrong,,,everything is under control.”
According to that animation California is already glowing!
Probably get more radiation standing in the sun.
What are you trying to do... ruin their delusional panic?
LLS
” I’ll make these REAL SIMPLE so even the Sheperd Smiths of the world can understand them.”
Oh, please, pretty please, explain it to us dolts. You sound just like a condescending lib that thinks they`re smarter than everyone else and has to talk down to them. And what is it with you people and Shep Smith? You have a crush on him?
