DETROIT (WWJ) A big recall at Chrysler and a creepy one at Mazda.
Spiders that can spin webs in fuel systems are causing Mazda to recall 52 thousand Mazda 6 sedans from the 2009 and 2010 model years. Those webs can cause damage to the fuel systems, and potentially lead to fuel leaks.
Chrysler, meanwhile, is recalling about 250,000 vehicles to fix potential engine stalling.
The company says it will recall 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country minivans and 2010 Dodge Journey crossovers in the wake of reports that the ignition key could move while driving and cause the engine to shut off.
Chrysler says if the engine shuts off while driving, it could increase the risk of a crash. The vehicles were built between August 2009 and June 2010.
The auto company told the government it had received 32 customer complaints and was aware of two rear-end crashes.
Theres also a smaller recall at Honda. The Japanese automaker calling back 36 thousand hybrids over stalling concerns. This recall effects Civic hybrids from the 2006 and 2007 model years.

Look at the lead vehicle in 90% of the freight-train-like lines in the high speed lanes on the freeway, and you'll find a minivan as the holdup at the point.......
I saw this spider web clog a fuel transfer switch in a Cessna 182. The avgas somehow made the web crystallize and form a hardened block to the system. We had to remove it with pliers.
Aren’t Ford Fusions rebadged Mazda 6’s?
Will the Fusion be recalled?
I have diagnose several car stalling problems, in several cars, as “too much stuff on your keychain”.
I learned this from my own issue: A 1987 Honda I had that would stall out when I shifted. I had a kubaton on my keychain. My leg hit the kubaton, and it turned the key back.
Guilty!
I’ve warned several people about the same thing ,, a heavy keychain will wear out the ignition lock cylinder pretty fast..
These Chryslers aren’t stalling...they’re striking.
I think it is the Mustang that shares a platform with the Mazda 6. Both are built at the same plant in Flat Rock Mi.
“spider web clog”
Here in North Central Florida the Black Widow Spiders love the fuel system, especially the gas tanks. Never had one cause a clog though.
Our pickup did some bucking today, I will have my husband check out this thread. It is interesting.

We could never figure it out how they were getting into the transfer switch. The switch is located on the floor between the seats. It measures about six inches square and four inches high. We couldn’t move the selector lever either way. When we pulled the cover off the inside was filled with this fibrous stuff. Looked like silk thread and really thick. The avgas somehow did some sort of chemical thing and the stuff was like heavy thread. We needed pliers to pull the stuff out.
Gee. Some things never change. My father had the exact same problem with a brand-new 1957 Chrysler. The dealer couldn't fix it, and he returned the car and bought another Ford.
LOL
My mechanic favors Caravans for his small fleet of loaner vehicles. Mind you, most are maybe a decade old, but he really likes them for some reason.
Last time I used one, I got stranded at home due to the transmission pawl getting stuck between gears. He’s admitted that, since then, another one’s done the same to another customer.
Apparently they just run like a top... once you manage to get it started!
I remember reading that the web from the black widow spider was used in gun sight optics, i.e. the cross hairs.
Ah. Given your own experience, I’m getting an understanding of how well the web worked!
I think formaldehyde was used to ‘fix’ the web strands.
Thanks. Whoever came up with the concept must have been laughed out of a few rooms before he proved it.
That brings a whole new dynamic to hanger rash!
