The Republican National Committee raised $5.7 million in January, and new Chairman Reince Priebus said Sunday that $3.5 million of the total came in after his election Jan. 14.
We owe a lot of our success to major donors who helped us reach 180 percent of our monthly major donor goal, and we were able to accomplish that in the last two weeks of January, Priebus said in a statement. I am thankful for the outpouring of support Ive seen over the past month, from both long-time and first-time donors, but we have a lot of work to do.
Priebus has been working to restore confidence among major donors and dig out from under the debt created during the 2010 election cycle. The RNC had $21.4 million in debt and only $2.1 million on hand by the end of the month, according to disclosure forms filed Sunday to the Federal Election Commission.
Because the RNC is still receiving bills from vendors, Priebus said he expects the committees debt to be more than $22 million, including $15 million in loans and more than $7 million to vendors.
The Democratic National Committee, meanwhile, raised $7.2 million in January and had $16.8 million in debt, including $15 million in loans taken out during the 2010 election cycle. It had $9.1 million on hand.
Each campaign committee is required to file monthly fundraising reports to the FEC, and reports for January were due Sunday.
Donors were waiting to see if Michael Steele stayed or went. We’ll see what next month looks like.
Repeal bumacare and a lot more wallets will magically become unlocked.
Caution: “We owe a lot of our success to major donors.”
I.e., it was the INSIDERS who got sick of Michael Steele and forced him out. In fact, we already knew that.
Now, those same insiders are donating, trying to ensure that the Tea Party and the real conservatives don’t gain any influence.
As I’ve already said, they didn’t turn on Steele and force him out until his last six months or so in office, when he refused to join the gang and condemn conservative candidates in places like Delaware and Alaska.
Republicans get more money from small donors than Democrats. But I suspect, from that phrasing in the announcement, that this is a jump in the big, insider donor money.
I think that the RNC will outdo the past donations and contributions.
I have heard Priebus interviewed on TV and he definitely has the right stuff.
I like his ideas.
I just hope he concentrates on fundraising instead of making TV appearances.
I’m constantly in awe of the amount of money the political industry pulls in without ever creating a product of any value.
Really repeal Obamacare; etc and the money will fly. I understand Obamacarre is being implemented right now.
The RNC is going to have to prove to me they are not supporting the RINO agenda.
IT was sort of shocking to see just how much of an idiot Michael Steele became. Sure am glad he’s gone.
I wouldn’t donate a dime to the RNC if I had millions
Thanks FTJM.
I have the same take.
