BOSTON A solar panel manufacturer that received $58 million in state aid in 2007 to open a factory at a former Massachusetts military base is closing the plant and laying off 800 workers.
Evergreen Solar Inc. announced Tuesday it is shutting down the Devens plant by the end of the 2011 first quarter.
Gov. Deval Patrick had heralded Evergreen as key to the state's economic future in clean energy. Economic Development Secretary Greg Bialecki said the administration is disappointed and will work to recover any money Evergreen owes the state.

I usedto live around 10 miles from there..
take the federal government money (our TAXES) and run.... that’s the name of that tune...
That’s $24,000/yr per worker, a lot better than Obama’s jobs stimulus did.
Thank Al Gore for starting this nonsense. He should be sued!
Green Jobs will fuel the economy, per Pelosi/Hussein
You were smart and got out.
Evergreen was a sham company anyway... and Mass - the sucker state. Their product was garbage.
How are the windmills doing up in Minnesoooota, BTW? I keep hearing how the cold freezes the turbines, and they are a huge maintenance headache...
Sun Sets on Solar company that got $58M, leaving Massachusetts
I remember Stossel did a report about a solar panel company that got stimulus funds, its owners wife worked at the White House.... purely a coincidence of course.
That’s alright. Get ‘em from China. [Little sardonic humor there.]
Thats up near Ayah right?
Wonder how much of this is due to RINO Mitt Romney?
And I bet they are shipping all that bright new shiny equipment to China.

I grew up in Marlboro, and I am not surprised at this. Back in the 70's they bought in on a recycling plant. It was supposed to take 2 years to build, and all towns in a 30 mile radius were going to send in recyclables. It was gonna be a cash cow. But they always seemed to be a million or two shy of their goal, new parts needed, technology changes, red tape, etc. 3 years later the boss left town with all the money. It's said he's living it up in the Carribean. And once again, Marlboro is suckered.
“Greg Bialecki said the administration is disappointed “
This won’t hurt, the sun was in my eye, it is for your own good, tastes like chicken and it took a bad bounce.......
When Idiots try to create a industry and become millionaires, you start with 58 million and end with one! way to go imbeciles.
