"The question that still must be answered is why NORAD's muted response was simply that North America was not threatened, and later our government approved the lame excuse that the picture recorded was simply an aircraft leaving a contrail," said retired U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Jim Cash.

A former U.S. Air Force fighter pilot and commander of an F-15 squadron and an F-16 wing, Cash was assigned to NORAD as an assistant director of operations at the Cheyenne Mountain complex near Colorado Springs, Colo., and is fully knowledgeable of NORAD procedures.

"There is absolutely no doubt that what was captured on video off the coast of California was a missile launch, was clearly observed by NORAD, assessed by a four-star general in minutes, and passed to the president immediately," he said.

That is an incredibly provocative move by the Chinese, and indicative of the tremendously low opinion they have of 0bama personally.

And here I thought that this had been settled here at FR by dividing into two groups and avoiding reopening the issue.

Oh lord, so who in NORAD is spilling the beans about what 4 star generals are doing? Or is that pure speculation?

Is there even an ‘unnamed source’ on this one? Maybe this Cash guy himself is in on it?

I am completely dumbfounded. For Obama to have directed such a limpwristed response to China threatening the US west coast with a missile from a nuclear submarine shows complete and utter incompetence and tomfoolery. For Obama to continue to spend the US into oblivion shows evil intent. The man must be stopped no matter what the cost.

Well, I don’t always believe Joseph Farah. But I saw the video, and there was no doubt in my mind that it was a missile.

The original account made it clear that it came from the ocean miles from the coast or any island. Which pretty much means that it must have come from a submarine.

I seriously doubt whether an American sub would have fired it over U.S. territory. That would have been a huge political risk.

The likeliest explanation is exactly this. It was a Chinese sub, reminding Obama who is boss.

Two governmental military experts with extensive experience working with missiles and computer security systems have examined the television video and conclude the mysterious contrail originating some 30 miles off the coast near Los Angeles did not come from a jet – but rather, they say the exhaust and the billowing plume emanated from a single source nozzle of a missile, probably made in China.

I have a friend that works as an engineer with a prominent SoCal defense firm. He asked their contrail expert about this. He says definitely a contrail.

Just curious why there was no mention of the North Korean mini-sub that took out the BP drilling rig.......or so I’ve heard.

I have a very hard time believing China was involved. Why on earth would they risk igniting a global war? Launching a ballistic missile off the coast of the United States is extremely reckless and provocative. There seems to be an irrational military fear of China around here. China’s strengths are purely economical in nature. They are indeed engaged in an economic war with the United States. A military war is America’s strength and the Chinese will not do the U.S. a favor by playing into her strengths. China wants to be the global superpower of the 21st century and beyond and she achieves that by squeezing America’s economy into submission, not by inviting a military attack that would surely knock China into the 18th century.

Under no circumstance would the United States allow a foreign military to launch rockets or missiles so close to our coast, not even Imam Hussein Obama. He would immediately address the nation on the matter, he would address the UN on the matter, our allies would condemn the action of the aggressor, and other general global alarms and reactions would ensue. Rightfully so. There is no way such warlike action would be kept secret.

I will not be convinced and you should not buy into the nonsense. China was not involved.

Just my opinion but—

If someone said that North Korea was showing off a slow moving two-stager fired from a sub in US waters, OK. “Wow. Those funky North Koreans are closer in than we might have thought.” But why would China do it? China has ICBMs. China firing this thing wouldn’t intimidate anyone, it would just be pathetic.

Predictable number of smart alecks on the thread, aren’t there? The Whitey tapes are the only thing I can remember recently (birth cert aside) where freepers have become so vicious toward one another over something.

I keep reading the contrail threads because it’s an intriguing event -but it’s infuriating to have to read through sooo many you’re dumb-no-YOU’re-dumb posts before finding one worth reading!

Thanks for posting this- interesting take- in spite of Farah’s mixed record on accuracy/facts.

I’m not sure what it was- but no one has proven it was a plane or a missle...yet :)

wnd would not be my choice for a source. I completely lost faith in them in the late 90’s with their hype and sensationalist reporting. They always come up with ‘information’ that no one else has...and it is never proven. OK City did it for me.

No offense CG

"but rather, they say the exhaust and the billowing plume emanated from a single source nozzle of a missile, probably made in China.

Seems very hard to believe that a foreign power could have fired a missle off our coast without having their boat's position immediately triangulated...followed by capture and/or destruction.

If it was a ChiCom sub that launched the missile, why wouldn’t it be construed as an aggressive act and possible precursor to an attack.

I know we have the capability to find and sink submarines. There are probably 1 or 2 squadrons of P3Cs in the SoCal area and only the Navy knows how many attack boats between SoCal and Hawaii.

Why didn’t they sink the sub that fired the missile? Maybe they did?
