Democratic National Committee gets new logo, slogan

By: James Hohmann September 15, 2010 03:27 PM EDT

Eager to bridge a daunting enthusiasm gap, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine recited a list of President Barack Obama’s accomplishments Wednesday to an auditorium packed with George Washington University College Democrats.

It came as he unveiled a new web site, a new logo and a new slogan for his party: “Change That Matters.”

As he went down a longer list, Kaine spoke passionately of how Democrats delivered an economic stimulus (he would only call it “the Recovery Act”) and “the Affordable Care Act” (which is how he spoke of the new health law).

“And we’ll be talking about that as a signature achievement for generations to come,” the former Virginia governor said.

The declaration captured in miniature Kaine’s problem: many incumbents on the ballot this November are not talking about those accomplishments he’s so proud of. In key races, Democrats have downplayed their votes for stimulus and the health bill. Talking about them may lead to a standing ovation from liberal college students, but polls show the same issues driving large numbers of independent voters toward Republicans. “Lead with what you’ve done and be proud of it, and they’ve got a lot to be proud of,” Kaine said in an interview after his speech, defending his approach. “And then paint the contrast with the other side.”

THIS JUST IN The DNC is offering a reward to anyone who hears a Democrat uttering the words “healthcare, stimulus, bailout, summer of recovery.”

The DNC is offering a bonus if anyone witnesses a candidate inviting Obama to fly-in to a Dem campaign rally.

Somebody tell Timmie Kaine that I, for one, am just a super big fan of the new logo - it lends itself so easily to parody.

The other thing I would point out is that, by getting rid of any vestiges of red in their new logo, the democrats have signalled as clearly as possible that they no longer consider themselves Americans.

In addition, with no more red in the logo they have officially branded themselves as being bloodless and wimpy.

Lastly, they have now clearly indicated that their true loyalties lie with the U.N. Why else would they have basically converted their logo into a variation on the U.N.'s flag, with the same pasty blue color scheme:

Norman Matton Thomas (November 20, 1884 – December 19, 1968) was a leading American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America. He was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1911. As a candidate for President of the U. S., Norman Thomas said, in a 1944 epoch speech:

“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of “liberalism”, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

He went on to say: “I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform.”
