More than 100 millionaires say current tax systems are “not fair” and increasing wealth tax would help resolve inequalities made dramatically worse by the Covid health crisis. Millionaires from around the world have signed an open letter asking governments to tax them at higher rates. The letter was published online Wednesday, mid-way through Davos, the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting being held virtually this year. The signatories of the letter, which was the result of a joint initiative from inequality advocacy groups Patriotic Millionaires, Millionaires for Humanity and TaxMeNow, said current tax systems were “not fair”. While only 100 millionaires...

"I just think there has to be a change," Davon Cook said after the Rams' 52-0 win. "There has to be a change that starts with the people that are most influential around the world. "No matter what happened on that day, no matter how the whole situation went down, there has to be a change."

Fox News has exclusively obtained a Democratic National Committee memo which paints the Republican field of presidential contenders as Tea Party flaks pushing tired, divisive policies which elevate the rich and predicts much of the same at tonight's Fox News co-hosted debate in Ames, Iowa. "As we expect to see tonight, the GOP candidates' extreme aims to appease the far-right wing of the Republican Party shows that Republicans are more concerned with protecting their special interest friends and the wealthy than protecting working families," the memo, penned by DNC National Press Secretary Melanie Roussell, reads. "The GOP would rather seniors...

Democratic National Committee gets new logo, slogan By: James Hohmann September 15, 2010 03:27 PM EDT Eager to bridge a daunting enthusiasm gap, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine recited a list of President Barack Obama’s accomplishments Wednesday to an auditorium packed with George Washington University College Democrats. It came as he unveiled a new web site, a new logo and a new slogan for his party: “Change That Matters.” As he went down a longer list, Kaine spoke passionately of how Democrats delivered an economic stimulus (he would only call it “the Recovery Act”) and “the Affordable Care Act”...

RICHMOND, British Columbia -- Holding his arms high after a huge final lap, Chicago native Shani Davis became the first man to win two gold medals in the 1,000 meter speedskating race, crossing the line in 1:08.94 at the Richmond Olympic Oval on Wednesday night. Davis was running just fifth after 600 meters but turned on the jets to become the only participant in the race to break 1 minute 9 seconds. Thus Davis reprised his gold medal win from the 2006 Winter Games in Turin, Italy. The U.S.'s Chad Hedrick authored a mild surprise with a bronze medal in...

New York, July 1 (ANI): Senator John McCain's daughter Meghan wants Hillary Duff to play her in a movie version of her first book - still to be released. The blonde blogger, who began to receive media attention in 2007 for her blog, McCain Blogette, has already drawn her top choices for the role. "I want Hilary Duff to play me. I think she's really hot - hotter than me - but I'd still want her to play me," the New York Daily News quoted her as saying at the recent Trevor Project's summer gala at Capitale. But the 24-year-old...

Before I get into the meat of this column, I know Americans are hungry for information on the Obama citizenship crisis. This is my last update which contains the web sites for the various lawsuits so you can stay updated. Since that update, Phil Berg's injunction to stay the electoral college votes was denied by the U.S. Supreme Court. The column is here and part of Phil's argument is contained in Dr. Edwin Vieira's last column here. Today is the day Cort Wrotnowski's case is being heard in private by all nine U.S. Supreme Court Justices. There are many columnists...

The decision on granting a hearing challenging President-elect Barack Obama's U.S. citizenship is still pending. The "Washington Times" reports that the U.S. Supreme Court held a private conference Friday morning to discuss whether to take up a lawsuit but it was not on the list of court orders for the day. According to the "Times" a Supreme Court spokesman said the decision to hear the case will most likely be announced next week.

Supreme Court – Obama Birth Certificate -The verdict is in! By Scott Prentice Reading “Traditional News Media” reports you would think it was. Reading headlines and briefs like ABC Senior White House Correspondent Jake Tapper and I quote: “After the Justices meet -- and assuredly decline to hear the matter -- the anti-Obama activists supporting the case will hold a vigil near the steps of the highest Court in the land.” Or Los Angeles Time reporting – Satire “It may come as something of a shock to those millions planning trips to Washington for the Jan. 20 inauguration of President-elect...

Peace activist Cindy Sheehan wants to snatch House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's congressional seat from her in November, but first she's going to need the help - and signatures - of 10,198 friends and supporters. Sheehan was at San Francisco City Hall on Friday to take out papers for her independent run for Congress, but without those signatures from voters in the district, her name won't show up on the ballot. "It's an uphill battle," said Sheehan, who vowed to run against Pelosi in July after the speaker refused to start impeachment proceedings against President George Bush. "But I'm excited about...

WASHINGTON -- During the Cold War, President Dwight D. Eisenhower often said that he would go anywhere, any time, any place in pursuit of peace. Ike promoted co-existence with the former Soviet Union and invited Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev to visit the United States. Conservative Republicans were unhappy when President Richard M. Nixon made his surprise journey to hard-line communist China in 1972. But the move was mostly applauded as a diplomatic breakthrough, leading to better relations between the two nations. The American people rejoiced at those peacemaking gestures and didn't think that Eisenhower -- a World War II hero--...

Paul faithful flock to Spartanburg appearance A little-known Texas congressman seeking the Republican nomination for president visited Spartanburg on Saturday and seemed to arrive with all the makings of rock-star candidate for his party — despite polling low, little name recognition and a relatively small campaign staff. Supporters call it the “Ron Paul Revolution.” You might’ve seen it on signs or T-shirts. Or MySpace. Paul received no less than 16 standing ovations during his hour-plus speech and question-and-answer session at the Summit Pointe Event Center — first, when he entered the room, a second one when a re-entered after...

NEW YORK A feature piece in this coming Sunday's New York Times Magazine on Republican candidate for president, Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, portrays his followers as including a wild mix of "wackos" on both ends of the political spectrum. Paul, a libertarian, has been gaining media and public attention of late. CRAWFORD, Texas - Cindy Sheehan, the soldier's mother who galvanized the anti-war movement, said Sunday that she plans to run against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi unless she introduces articles of impeachment against President Bush in the next two weeks. ADVERTISEMENT Sheehan said she will run against the San Francisco Democrat in 2008 as an independent if Pelosi does not seek by July 23 to impeach Bush. That's when Sheehan and her supporters are to arrive in Washington, D.C., after a 13-day caravan and walking tour starting next week from the group's war protest site near Bush's Crawford ranch. "Democrats and...

Most people are probably not familiar with Joe Kernen, a morning anchor for the financial network CNBC. On Tuesday, he invited singer Sheryl Crow and “An Inconvenient Truth” schlockumentary producer Laurie David on to discuss their “Stop Global Warming College Tour.” As Kernen tried to present the skeptics’ side of this debate, the ladies clearly got uncomfortable and, to say the least, a bit defensive with their interviewer. For instance, when Kernen referenced the British documentary “The Great Global Warming Swindle,” and presented evidence from it refuting anthropogenic global warming theories, David astoundingly responded : Well, I haven’t seen it,...
