To The Editor:
The Republican spokesmen in Congress today are advocating exactly the same negative approach as that advocated by the conservative coalition back in 1938.
In 1938, Republicans and Southern Democrats in Congress favored a balanced budget, states rights, and restrictions on labor unions. They managed to repeal FDRs key job-creation programs, which had been making modest headway in the late 30s.
In a Conservative Manifesto, a South Carolina senator (sounding like todays Republican leaders John Boehner and Mitch McConnell) promised the public, Give enterprise a chance, and I will give you the guarantees of a happy and prosperous America.
The repeal of FDRs programs resulted in a major economic setback and the continuation of the Great Depression into 1939. The depression ended only with FDRs Arsenal of Democracy policy, which greatly stimulated American manufacturing with generous government contracts. This, plus the expansion of the military, finally ended the Great Depression and produced full employment in the United States. History tells us that the economy will shrink and unemployment will start to rise again if the Republicans take over Congress and block or repeal President Obamas job-creation programs.

Ya. Remember the 1938 landslide Republican takeover of the House and Senate that led to the repeal of FDR’s programs??? If so, please refresh my memory.
Bwwanny Frank and C. Dodd to blame.
Somebody failed history and economics. Or maybe I should say should have failed history and economics.
In plain English: on the day they’re born, your kids have a debt of billions of dollars to pay, and it’ll be coming out of their paychecks all their lives.
Our president and congress hard at work.
Again, the re-writing of history.
Just off the top of my head I’m thinking wasn’t that an attempt by the Republicans, NOT a successful attempt either as I believe (correct me if I’m wrong please) that is when FDR threatened, should he not get his way to stack SCOTUS, and the Repubs capitulated???
Somebody failed history and economics. Or maybe I should say should have failed history and economics.
With all the discussions about ‘tax cuts for the rich’ with liberals, apparently liberals failed MATH too.
Ah...another racist.

We're Not Bankrupting the Country Fast Enough
That’s a very good op-ed.
Along with the aid of Snowe and a few other mangy RINO'S

Isn’t that a Gary Larson Fireside cartoon modified?
Sowell is on fire.
Yep. I just updated it to honor the morons in Malfunction Junction.
Twelve million in uniform. Well, that did take care of unemployment, right?
And did you notice?
NOT ONE SINGLE Democrat (candidate or otherwise) is defending “healthcare” or “stimulus.”
“Bailout” is another word that will not emanate from their lips.
As Haley Barbour said, “ Dems are running from Obama like “scalded dogs.”
Dem candidates are usually AWOL when Ohaha comes to campaign.
Sowell would make a great president.
