And, of course, some numbnut has to rip off Sowell -

Republicans could ruin economy again

To The Editor:

The Republican spokesmen in Congress today are advocating exactly the same negative approach as that advocated by the conservative coalition back in 1938.

In 1938, Republicans and Southern Democrats in Congress favored a balanced budget, states’ rights, and restrictions on labor unions. They managed to repeal FDR’s key job-creation programs, which had been making modest headway in the late ‘30s.

In a “Conservative Manifesto,” a South Carolina senator (sounding like today’s Republican leaders John Boehner and Mitch McConnell) promised the public, “Give enterprise a chance, and I will give you the guarantees of a happy and prosperous America.”

The repeal of FDR’s programs resulted in a major economic setback and the continuation of the Great Depression into 1939. The depression ended only with FDR’s “Arsenal of Democracy” policy, which greatly stimulated American manufacturing with generous government contracts. This, plus the expansion of the military, finally ended the Great Depression and produced full employment in the United States. History tells us that the economy will shrink and unemployment will start to rise again if the Republicans take over Congress and block or repeal President Obama’s job-creation programs.

Ya. Remember the 1938 landslide Republican takeover of the House and Senate that led to the repeal of FDR’s programs??? If so, please refresh my memory.

Somebody failed history and economics. Or maybe I should say should have failed history and economics.

In plain English: on the day they’re born, your kids have a debt of billions of dollars to pay, and it’ll be coming out of their paychecks all their lives.

Our president and congress hard at work.

And did you notice?

NOT ONE SINGLE Democrat (candidate or otherwise) is defending “healthcare” or “stimulus.”

“Bailout” is another word that will not emanate from their lips.

As Haley Barbour said, “ Dems are running from Obama like “scalded dogs.”

Dem candidates are usually AWOL when Ohaha comes to campaign.

My thinks that mr Robert Mann of Oneida had a botched lobotomy.

Everything he says, and I mean EVERYTHING, is 100% backwards.

Wiki says it was a Democrat who said it.

“U.S. Senator Josiah Bailey (D-NC) released a “Conservative Manifesto” in December 1937,[1] which included several statements of conservative philosophical tenets, including the line “Give enterprise a chance, and I will give you the guarantees of a happy and prosperous America.”

“Conservative Manifesto”

“However, the Southern Democrats controlled the entire south with only token Republican opposition, and thus had both liberal and conservative factions. While the South had many New Deal supporters it also had many conservative Southern Democrats strongly opposed to the plan. Among their leaders were Senators Harry Byrd and Carter Glass of Virginia and Vice-President John Nance Garner of Texas. U.S. Senator Josiah Bailey (D-NC) released a “Conservative Manifesto” in December 1937,[1] which included several statements of conservative philosophical tenets, including the line “Give enterprise a chance, and I will give you the guarantees of a happy and prosperous America.” The document called for a balanced federal budget, state’s rights, and an end to labor union violence and coercion.[1] Over 100,000 copies were distributed and it marked a turning point in terms of congressional support for New Deal legislation.[1]”

Hard to figure the author’s intentions.
