Should I Do This?

I am contemplating a form of politicol/cultural activism that may be totally unique. I need help from some wise and insightful Freepers. I need to know:

1) Should I do this. (I need a little nudge) 2) Ideas for the posters. (you guys are very creative)

Ok here's the concept. In my beloved home town of Tampa we have a relatively new phenomonem. Pan handlers occupy almost every street corner. Generally there are 3 or 4 at one intersection. They have now been afforded an aire of legitimacy as the local "public servants" have distributed to them, florescent vests.

They proudly and dutifully don their new uniforms, stake out a busy intersection, and resolutely stand with their hand made cardboard signs, bravely enduring the rejection and indifference of 93% of the motorists.

I suppose that’s possible. It would be nice to see self righteous libs snubbing or arguing with the homeless...

If you paid them , that would be work, and work scares the crap out of panhandlers.

Good intentions but sounds like way more trouble than it's worth.

These aren't normal people like your neighbors or co-workers. They are on the street for a reason. Their idea of interacting is a lot different than yours. Whenever one encounters street people a good rule of thumb is to avoid them.

What you need to do is hire a good lawyer, toss the idea his/her way and see what advice they give you. If you think this is a little extreme, I can only suggest that you can employ a lawyer now or later when someone sues you over this whole idea.

Trust me, all good ideas will eventually need litigation in today’s litigious atmosphere, especially something as radical as this.

And, before you ask, I’m not a lawyer ... I have a soul. ;-)

I swear I think good signs with conservative humorous jabs would generate more income. It would become self perpetuating. Word would spread like wild fire and every homeless panhandler would be displaying funny signs dissing Obama and the dems. All we need is a few conservatives to feed them a few buck's and they'll never put the signs down...need more sign ideas.

I love the idea of them wearing the city approved florescent vests and carrying our signs. The outrage may be heard around the world, LOL.

It would be a raw form of democracy on display. Grassroots voting in the form of dollar bills and spare change if you appreciate the message. This is true motor voter.

This is one of the best ideas that I’ve heard in a long time!! I think that you should post pictures and create a ping list to make sure that we get to see them. Put me at the top of the list.

Hand out official Panhandler’s masks, then the TPD can arrest them for violating the cities mask ordinance.

“If you employ the services of drug addicts, alcoholics, the chronically homeless, street hucksters, and the mentally disturbed, you will get exactly what you pay for.”

Point taken. Look at Congress.

If you could find a gutsy person who would "dress" like a panhandler and go along with your idea, that might work (until the cops put a stop to it), but I don't think panhandlers want any trouble from others (which is what the signs would bring), and they don't really want a job per se, either. They got their gig, that's what they're good at, and I don't think most are looking for a career move. But I could be wrong.

LOL! Brilliant! I’d love to see them hold the signs you suggested.

How about “Welcome to Obamaville”
“Hope we can Change it back”

I don’t this FReeper will have to worry about the bums ditching the signs. Once those 93% of the people who normally drive by actually read those signs, they will be THROWING money at them. I probably would.
