National lawmakers were in Chicago holding a Congressional hearing on proposed gun control legislation today.
The Closing the Gun Show Loophole Act would require private sellers at gun shows to perform background checks before selling firearms. Illinois passed a similar law in 2005.
Jody Weis is superintendent of Chicago Police. He says the law should be implemented in all states.
WEIS: It's just common sense legislation. I don't see how anyone could say this is restrictive when we're simply asking for a background check if you're going to buy a weapon. This is pretty simple to understand.
Thirty-three states, including Indiana, allow private dealers to sell guns to anyone without a background check.
According to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, only seven states require background checks at all gun purchase points.
You know, personal attacks like that are a violation of FR's TOS, don't you? Don't worry, I won't turn you in. Not yet.
It's pretty obvious by your rant that you're all out of facts, logic, and reasoning, and have lost this debate.
You advocated allowing Big Brother to confiscate our registered firearms, while hiding unregistered firearms. That's what you said.
I pointed out to you that allowing a tyrant's goons to take any firearm from you is an act of cowardice and surrender, which is exactly what it is.
The truth is, if you're not willing to fight those who would disarm you, then you'll never have the courage to fight another day. Those guns you buried will be found by some future archaeologist, just as you left them. And you, my friend, will have gone to the next world knowing that you failed to find your backbone when it most counted.
