National lawmakers were in Chicago holding a Congressional hearing on proposed gun control legislation today.
The Closing the Gun Show Loophole Act would require private sellers at gun shows to perform background checks before selling firearms. Illinois passed a similar law in 2005.
Jody Weis is superintendent of Chicago Police. He says the law should be implemented in all states.
WEIS: It's just common sense legislation. I don't see how anyone could say this is restrictive when we're simply asking for a background check if you're going to buy a weapon. This is pretty simple to understand.
Thirty-three states, including Indiana, allow private dealers to sell guns to anyone without a background check.
According to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, only seven states require background checks at all gun purchase points.

Say a prayer for Tolik whose last post was on Feb. 26, IIRC. I'm afraid Tolik has gone to a better place. If anyone wants to start a new Victor Davis Hanson ping list, you can put my name on it.
Some noteworthy articles about politics, foreign or military affairs, IMHO, FReepmail me if you want on or off my list.
We’re not taking anything up the ass, they will be. All of those hundreds of millions of guns were all lost in unfortunate accidents involving lakes and streams. They can pass all the laws they want, no one is going to comply with them. f ‘em.
Where is the NRA on this?
making sure Harry Reid is reelected.
When did the Democrats unilaterally change the national capitol to Chicago? Or are they just lost because they don't read maps any better than they read their own legislation?
Thanks for the ping!
Guess who helped me find the story?

What is your reason for writing that?
Yep!
Details below.
Concerned about the easy availability of guns in our society?
Are you as alarmed as the United Nations and some within our own government about the "gun nuts" and other freedom wackos allowed to run loose?
Wish the government would just repeal the Second Amendment and confiscate all the guns because you believe sensible people shouldn't suffer because of some idiotic notion about some antiquated right?
While we can't take the guns away from the people, we CAN take the people (or at least SOME of them) away from their guns.

I don’t know what has happened since but I know they were leaning toward at least a tacit endorsement of Reid.
How could that have ever happened? I will never understand it.
I agree. Maybe it’s just the crowd I hang with, but I don’t know a single gun owner who does not voice clearly that THAT is the line they will not cross. And most think it’s coming soon. Get and hide your unregistered firearms while you can.
A decent government in DC would make it a Federal felony to even propose or try to pass a law restricting the 2nd. This has always been my complaint about the defensive, finger-in-the-dike approach of the NRA to this continuous onslaught.
Tyrants never give up.
Fear the tyrant that fears your gun!

“If it is time to bury them it is time to dig them up.”
You see this is why applying the 2nd amendment to the States is a bad idea. Now the same exceptions which are applied by the individual state and local governments can and will be applied by the by Washington D.C. upon all of us whether we want them or not.
There is no room for live and let live among liberals, EVERYONE has to do things their way! Everyone has to be made subject to their “benevolent” laws telling them how to live their live and govern themselves.
The lawless Federal Government knows no limit to its power particular as it has now applied the same limits to the states. Making our States little more then a redundant government.
Ping!
Then it is time to clean, lock, and load. BLOAT while you can.
It's too soon for any endorsements, and now Reid voted for Sotomayor and Kagan.
