Foreign medical workers among 10 killed in Afghanistan
BBC ^ | August 7th 2010 | AFP

Eight foreigners and two Afghans have been found shot dead next to abandoned vehicles in the north-eastern Afghan province of Badakhshan, officials say.

The dead foreigners are believed to be six Americans, one Briton and a German, who worked for an international charity providing eye care and medical help.

Their vehicles were discovered a day after contact was lost with them.

Local police said robbery might have been the motive. However, the Taliban have said they were behind the attack.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, said bibles translated into Dari had been found.

"Yesterday at around 0800 (0330 GMT), one of our patrols confronted a group of foreigners. They were Christian missionaries and we killed them all," he told the AFP news agency.

He later told the Associated Press they were "spying for the Americans".

The team was working for a Christian charity, the International Assistance Mission (IAM). Its executive director, Dirk Frans, denied the medics and their Afghan interpreters were missionaries.

"That is a lie. That is not true at all. IAM is a Christian organisation, we have always been that," he told the BBC.

"We have worked in Afghanistan since 1966 - under the king, the communists, the Russians, the Mujahideen and the Taliban. They have known us as a Christian agency, but we certainly do not distribute bibles."

An IAM spokesman earlier said it was still awaiting formal identification of the victims, but that their families had been informed.

The bodies are expected to be returned to Kabul over the weekend.

"We cannot confirm any details at this point, but are actively working with local authorities and others to learn more about the identities and nationalities of these individuals," it said in a statement.

Mujahed said the group consisted of nine foreigners - five men and four women - and an Afghan national.

They were carrying Persian-language Bibles, a satellite tracking device and maps, he added.

Director Dirk Frans believes the foreigners were medics who had been volunteering for his International Assistance Mission charity at an eye hospital in Nuristan.

He said the group of five American men and three women - an American, Briton and German - had decided to drive through Badakhshan to Kabul as they thought it would be the safest route. (Sky News)

We went into a camp to inoculate some children. We left the camp after we had inoculated the children for polio, and this old man came running after us and he was crying. He couldn't see. We went back there, and they had come and hacked off every inoculated arm. There they were in a pile. A pile of little arms.

We went back there, and they had come and hacked off every inoculated arm. There they were in a pile. A pile of little arms...

..And I remember...I...I...I cried, I wept like some grandmother. I wanted to tear my teeth out, I didn't know what I wanted to do. And I want to remember it, I never want to forget. And then I realized--like I was shot...like I was shot with a diamond...a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought, "My God, the genius of that, the genius, the will to do that." Perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they could stand that--these were not monsters, these were men, trained cadres, these men who fought with their hearts, who have families, who have children, who are filled wi th love--that they had this strength, the strength to do that. If I had ten divisions of those men, then our troubles here would be over very quickly. You have to have men who are moral and at the same time were able to utilize their primordial i nstincts to kill without feeling, without passion, without judgment--without judgment. Because it's judgment that defeats us.

Unfortunately, going "Kurtz" these backwards, heathen apes (and anyone associated with them), may be the ONLY way to beat them.

“....and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.” John 10:28

Evildoers who serve their god (Satan) only appear to have prevailed. God has the last Word.

Sadly, it is true that most of the unspeakable horrors of this world in all ages have been committed by the religious.

“We can not choose the time in which we are born, but we can choose ourselves in this time. Exists only one race - a race of mankind, there is only one religion - religion of love, there is only one language - the language of the heart.” (C.S Lewis)

If only it were true and all other pompous, murderous zealotry were banished from the earth.

According to the story on Yahoo News, the Taliban claimed that they were killed because they were acting as “American Spies and Preaching Christianity”

“Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid told The Associated Press that they killed the foreigners because they were “spying for the Americans” and “preaching Christianity.”

Yep, we always send in people who want to help sick children in someplace to spy. And since they were a “Christian” backed unit, why would the Talibat’s think they were preaching Christianity?

“The third Afghan who survived “told me he was shouting and reciting the holy Quran and saying ‘I am Muslim. Don’t kill me,”

I hate to say it, but, if these “people” don’t want Western help, then don’t give it to them. Let them figure it out all on their own. I hear mountain grass makes a great meal...

religious what? Certainly not religious Christians.
In fact the worst of all have been the fanatic non religious ideologies including the spectrum of Communist systems. Perhaps as evil are the self described ROP-the cult founded by Mohamed.

The quote is from Apocalypse Now— I think the poster was making reference to the savagery of the Taliban- similar to the savagery of the Muslim Taliban.

"religious what? Certainly not religious Christians."

Sorry, but...You're kidding, right? Ever heard of the Crusades?

This site is decidedly anti-Christian, but its list of atrocities is one of the more comprehensive ones on the Net.

Having said that, in CURRENT times the Islamic faith is certainly responsible for the vast majority of atrocities.

As my earlier tag line went “Islam the religion of piece - truth depends on the correct spelling”

What happened here WILL happen again and again because cultural norms don't cross cultural barriers. Islam has never had a reformation nor a renaissance and until it does it can not progress from the Dark Ages (correct non-PC problem identification).

BTW - do you truly think that BHOI’s proposed civilian corps of reconstruction and medical experts will fare any better? Their only chance of personal survival is to be supported 24/7/365 by a battalion force (or larger) of troops authorized to kill on sight everyone that posses a threat to them and the people they are trying to help (again a pre reformation and renaissance concept).

The Crusades were struggles for the liberation of lands taken by force by Islamic marauders!

The Crusaders were Liberators. Although not always perfect - eg Fourth Crusade and Children's Crusade and often unsuccessful, they at least were heroic attempts to liberate Christian lands that had fallen into Islamic oppression.

You apparently have been brainwashed by somebody—and BTW-your website is disgustingly stupid full of lies.
