you are joking right?

why on earth should car makers make something for a parent so they do not forget they have children or do not know keeping them in a hot car is bad.

Christ I must be living on another planet because I could not do that to my kids nor forget them

“I have 3 and how the hell can someone say they forgot is beyond me, it is these kind of people who should not be having kids in the first place”

50% of deaths happen while “caregivers” are taking care of the children.

30% happen when a child plays unattended in an unlocked car.

That’s not bad. Optional device for parents of infants and toddlers. Like leather. Motion sensor when car is locked and stopped that sets off an alarm. Brilliant!

We can already detect a person in the car...

Agreed. My kids survived to be adults, I never ‘forgot’ them in a car. No excuse, period.

don’t care if if it’s 1% who are left in a car because the child was forgotten.

The fact is parents should not leave their kids in a car, they should not let kids play in a car and they should find decent care for their kids.

Why the hell should some car maker make some device to help out stupid ignorant lazy parents.

Liberals would want that as it is they who seem totally clueless when it comes to self responsibility .

Your kids are the most precious thing a person can have, now if some grown ups are too much in to their own life then don’t have a child, until they get their self me me me all about me views finished with.

You know what, I have never had anyone look after my kids, I take them where I go and I certainly would not let them get into a car and play there on a hot day or any other day.

am I missing something here.
now we want devices made by car makers to stop this, now we have to depend on car makers to save our kids because some are to stupid or ;lazy to look after their kids and watch them

ASTOUNDING

do this as parent

LOOK AFTER YOUR KIDS AND WATCH THEM, TAKE THEM WHERE YOU GO.
When you have kids you live for them too and that means putting off some of your self interest me me me life for a bit

SPOT ON!

I never put my kids in the backseat. Driving to my new home in Detroit from Cleveland, my four day old daughter was put in the back. I heard her start to choke and nearly cracked up trying to get to her.

My DH disabled the front passenger airbag and both children eventually rode up with me.

Or a sense of parental responsiblity?

If only that could be installed at the "factory" the same way reproductive organs are...

Sadly it is an option few seem to choose now days.

I cannot even believe I am reading some saying they want a car maker to make a device .

HOW DID WE COME TO THIS ???

Watch your kids, take them with you, be A PARENT.Know where your kids are at all times, there is no excuse for a child to die in a car and overheat, period

I am stunned to read comments that we should be getting car makers to make a device to help out self interested selfish ignorant lazy parents.

“Why the hell should some car maker make some device to help out stupid ignorant lazy parents.”

To make a profit.

“You know what, I have never had anyone look after my kids, I take them where I go and I certainly would not let them get into a car and play there on a hot day or any other day.”

I’m the same way - super paranoid. You have to be.

But it wrenches my guts to hear of some innocent child frying to death in a car and if a simple devise could prevent that them I’m all for it.

Actual, real advice from an article I posted a while back about young children left to die in hot cars-

“Keep your wallet or something you need in the back seat next to your child to remind you not to leave without them.” and “Put a Post-it note on the dashboard to remind you that your child is in the back seat, especially when your routine has changed.”

So to the parentally challenged, you may want to put something you value very highly, like your wallet or your purse next to your young child.

Priorities, you know.

*The fact is parents should not leave their kids in a car, they should not let kids play in a car and they should find decent care for their kids.*

I think the parents in these cases are so negligent that their children are destined for a tragic end no matter what. If they don’t get locked in a fridge or baked to death in a car or drowned in the bath when they are young, they’ll just make it to teen age and then drive drunk or get abducted or fall off a roof or join a gang and do drive-bys, etc. etc. etc. The kids are doomed no matter what.

wrenches me too but there is no excuse for any child to die like this and any parent who has a child die like this should go to jail for ignoring their child.

I trust no one with my kids, and I know where they are at all times, I have a conversion van and it is big but I know here my kids are before we set off and I could never leave them in a car while I go into a store.

If I ever saw this even in the cold I would contact the police right away.
I see lazy me me me parents all the time when I take my kids to school or elsewhere and it pisses me off.

18 children have died of this so far this year. It is not better to pretend that only bad parents have children that die in accidents than to come up with a technological fix. And you can’t get rid of bad parenting. Good parents can be bad parents for a period of time if they get distracted. You are entitled to your opinion but drop the insults. You know that you got lost from Mommy or Daddy when you were a young obnoxious person (I’m assuming that the personality trait developed early . . . : )

Sometimes apparently the kids crawl into the cars themselves and then can’t get out and the parents don’t know where they went.

Amen.

A little off subject: Once I was waiting for a bus. There was a woman yapping on her cell phone and her toddler was wandering all over. The youngster eventually stepped off the sidewalk onto the street. So I went after him, brought him back onto the sidewalk and to his mother. Instead of gratitude, however, I was bereated for “touching” her child.

That was it. If I see a kid wandering away from his/her parents, I let the child go. Cruel, but hey — if the parents don’t care, why should I?

sadly so true.

too many adults today who only care about them and do not understand they have a child now.
Seems some are more interested in work , work, nannies, going out, hair do’s shopping etc than their own child but hey so long as it fits into their family look at me view then so be it

“wrenches me too but there is no excuse for any child to die like this and any parent who has a child die like this should go to jail for ignoring their child.”

Granted. Screw the parents. Roast THEM over an open fire.

But a device to save precious, innocent children from criminally stupid parents/caregivers get my full support.
