Temperatures are rising and so are reports of infants and toddlers dying from being trapped inside sizzling automobiles.
A researcher says 18 children have died of hyperthermia since the beginning of the year, with eight deaths reported since June 13. That's the largest number of fatalities through the first half of a year since Jan Null, an adjunct professor of meteorology at San Francisco State University, began tracking the data in the late 1990s.
Government and safety experts are telling parents that they never should leave children in an unattended vehicle or allow kids to play in cars and trucks. Many of the recent cases have involved children who climbed inside an unlocked vehicle on a hot day and then couldn't get out....
Since 1998, Null has documented 463 child deaths involving heat exhaustion inside cars and trucks. Safety advocates said the deaths have been more prevalent since the mid-1990s when parent-drivers were required to put their children in the back seat, where they are safer in transit but more likely to be forgotten.

People out here used to call it “baby baking season”.
Forgetting your children can be easily avoided by simply putting something you actually value - a cell phone, a purse, money - on the back seat.
I hate these stories. I just don’t get why the car manufacturers can’t solve this.
A thermal heat detector that can automatically roll the windows down................... Something???
Can’t SOMETHING be borrowed from the military/security industry to fix this problem??

Like that 6th bag of groceries?
“Forgotten” like that?
Guess I’m from a WHOLE other planet than these people.

Yes!!! Or a motion sensor/thermometer external alarm...
I think Jan Null is blurring the lines between meteorology and sociology.
ow.
Or a sense of parental responsiblity?
It’s a matter of selfish parents. I don’t think you can come up with any device to fix that.
Locally, we’ve had children left in cars because Mama needed to get her nails done or Daddy wanted a few drinks at the bar. My opinion: If you can’t your children somewhere, find a babysitter or stay home.
I am going to propose a typical liberal panic solution. BAN ALL CARS!!! IMMEDIATELY!!! OR GO TO JAIL!!! unless you are a union member.
Sadly, genitals are the only requirement for parenthood.
Another government plan gone wrong combined with working moms who have no child care habits.
Working moms used to be allowed to talk to their children in the front seat on the way to daycare.
The government and the Feminists decided that was too much contact so they moved the kids out-of-sight-out-of-mind.
thats awful
“Or a sense of parental responsiblity?”
Unfortunately, you can’t mandate that.
MONEY is the only requirement for parenthood..if idiotic genitalia-challeged people have enough cash, voila!!!
It’s got to be one of the most heartbreaking kind of stories we get. And maddening. It’s almost as maddening as reading arrogant comments by people who insist (for no good reason) that they themselves are incapable of ever making such a mistake.
here’s a thought, don’t forget you have children .
I have 3 and how the hell can someone say they forgot is beyond me, it is these kind of people who should not be having kids in the first place
