WILLIE'S WORLD: World will be watching our governor's race
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 6/8/10 | Willie Brown

Posted on 06/08/2010 7:51:25 AM PDT by SmithL

It looks like it's going to be eMeg versus Moonbeam for governor of California, and the whole world will be watching.

For Meg Whitman, this is not just a race for governor. This is a race to the top of the Republican food chain and for consideration to be Mitt Romney's running mate in 2o12.

For Jerry Brown, it's the ultimate redemption for old-time politicians, for those opposed to term limits and for those who believe that experience counts.

I think Jerry started out with the idea that becoming governor again would launch him on another run for the White House, but Barack Obama's election ended that notion.

By the time the fall rolls around, the nation will be riveted. And like it or not, a good part of politics is show business, so the candidates had better start dressing the part.

Meg: Stick with pinks, red and blues - maybe lavender and yellow as well. By all means avoid black.

Jerry: Look more presidential. It goes better with your age. Forget open collars, and for God's sake nothing jazzy, unless you're on an oil rig.

And keep trimming those eyebrows.

As for substance, there are only three topics people want to hear about: jobs, jobs and jobs.

—Willie was Speaker of the Cal H of R back in the days when I was a Californian, afflicted with Allan Cranston, Moonbeam Brown, Phil and John Burton, and Dianne Feinstein as my mayor—even then, he was someone near sanity amongst that hadgepodge-—

Seriously, Willie?

You think Meg Whitman would spend all those millions to be governor of CA and then jump to run with Mitt in two years?

Why does anyone pay Willie Brown for his “political insight”?

Neither Meg or Moonbeam will touch the real problem — exploding union salaries and teacher pensions. Holy grails for the Socialist/Workers State.

One thing this fool knows is show business.

Ugh. Politics at it’s lowest.

Amen! People with Romney’s history are the problem, not the solution!

You know how it goes.

You get on E-Bay and see something that you don't need but looks pretty cool, so you make a bid on it. Then someone else makes a bid, and you feel the need to bid back. Before you know it, you're in a bidding war for something you weren't even sure you wanted, but now feel like you have to win, no matter what the cost.

If Romney-Whitman is the GOP ticket in 2012, then Obama will re-elected in a landslide.

Cuz, I would NOT vote.

I suppose you’re correct. The rest of the story was so laughable that was the only half-way serious thing I could pull-quote.
