Fox host Van Susteren asks blog readers to gauge her intelligence

For journalists, hate mail comes with the territory. And it can come at any moment, with critics instantly shooting off emails when someone ticks them off on a blog or on the air.

Fox News host Greta Van Susteren has surely received audience complaints before — but a recent email exchange irked her enough to take issue with it on her own blog. And in a move that Fox executives probably would have tried to discourage had they been consulted, Van Susteren also urged her blog readers to weigh in on the central point raised by her correspondent: that she is, well, rather dimly lit.

Fox host Van Susteren asks blog readers to gauge her intelligence

Grunt clearly answers her question every time, as an avowed Scientologist, she goes in to discover her engrams and enhance her OT Levels by grabbing the e-meter.

when progressives/liberals argue, and start to lose, they immediately say their opponent is stupid. idiotic. infantile. etc. attack the person, not the message.

Greta should understand this and not give the progressives the time of day. ignore them. do not engage them. just berate their actions but disregard their comments... as their comments will be juvenile and will never be substantive. they will level personal attacks constantly and never engage on facts.

engaging them when they issue personal attacks concedes ground as you fight to disprove some point that has nothing to do with the subject matter

there is nothing to gain by engaging in an argument with a progressive. they’ll lie, cheat, and move the goal posts... anything in an attempt to ‘win’. it’s like nailing jello to the wall.

One thing I can honestly say is that I’ve never questioned her intelligence.

Since I have no television, my access ti via XM radio and I occasionally tune in. I would have never thought to question her I Q. She is a good interviewer - very quick and hones right when her subjects try to evade/spin.

She’s more intelligent than BOR.

Whether it’s a reflection of “intelligence” or not, I don’t know. But here is what I DO know:

Over time, Greta’s show has become the most informative on Fox, and thus a favorite of mine. Why?

She is able to get the interviews that no one else on Fox seems to get. She was the first to get in depth interviews with Ben Nelson (Cornhusker Kickback), Mary Landriew (Louisiana Purchase) and Olympia Snowe (RINO). These were all in-depth, multi-part interviews (with additional footage on her website). No national sources that I’m aware of, got these kinds of interviews with these people before she did.

Greta is phenomenally well prepared for her interviews, and I suspect it comes from her legal background. She asks the question that is on the tip of the tongue of her viewer.

Unlike Hannity and BOR, she lets her interview subject talk, and does not try to run them over with her own opinion.

One cannot determine her political leanings by her demeanor only. (She is rumored to be a Democrat, albeit a conservative one; her spouse was a HRC operative). That said, she strikes me as a fiscal conservative, “good-gov’t” sort.

She has impeccable manners and bearing when conducting an interview with a gov’t official or guest. Tough, but fair. For this reason, I’m thinking, she is able to get people from all sides of the political aisle. To the best of my knowledge, despite all this publicity about the AZ law, she is the only one that has been able to interview Gov. Brewer on camera multiple times. She hasn’t been on BOR or Hannity, that’s for sure.

She also covers economic and international affairs in depth, which others do not.

Consider me a fan of Greta’s.

True. Greta is one of the only hosts on fox I watch. I like her a lot, especially her demeanor.

I agree with all you stated, I would add that I was relieved to see her get away from the husband kills wife story and the natalie halloway story. Her show is far better with the balance of crime and political news of the day. I love her interviews that take us to see Bush’s Texas and Palin’s Alaska. She has come into her own and is awesome. She needs to shake off anyone who would call her names. They are not worth it.

What an eloquent articulate post!

What worries me about GS is her tendency to latch onto whatever the public deems as the "Latest Thing," and then run with it non-stop, (e.g., Beth & her daughter Natalee Holloway.)

Also, I've read in years past that her husband is a staunch Dem who has contributed lots & lots of financial support.

There are earlier FR threads about GS which contain all the particulars.

This is rather interesting --- high powered, well educated, super articulate and obviously HIGH IQ Greta van Sustaren is honestly admitting that a viewer email seriously UPSET her.

Wow, that's the first time someone in the public eye has every honestly admitted something like this.

LOL

Thanks! I’m glad I’m not the only one.

Btw, I agree about the tabloid crime stories...balance is good. There are times for those stories, btw, and I don’t mind that she puts them in the 2nd half hour. But she has really hit her stride with current events and I learn more on her show than any other one.

And yes....she’s a ROAD WARRIOR! She’ll go anyplace for a story. She can get an interview with HRC even if HRC is in beautiful BFE. lol

Meanwhile, Hannity and BOR sit on their asses in studio. meh

I think her contract is up this year. Hope they renew her show.

I LOVE that she does not go on bORe’s show and sit there while he lords it over them. I cannot figure why on earth Beck bothers. I used to turn her off when she was on a story like the Halloway one....day after day with no new leads is boring. I feel for the family, if it was my daughter I would fight for coverage and justice, too. I just got sick of the same old thing with nothing new.

Agree completely! I first saw Greta on another network during the OJ trial and I thought then that she was very intelligent, but presumed that she was a liberal. I do not watch her show that frequently, but I do so enough that I have seen her become more conservative as time passes. She is smart enough to have seen the lack of depth of most liberal arguments once she had the opportunity to examine both sides.

I know many on this board criticized her coverage of the Natalie Holloway saga, but it WAS in the news at the time and her background in the law compelled her to try to get to the bottom of it. I also think that she had a real concern and sympathy for Natalie's family. Also, she was always very fair in her interviews with and comments about Sarah Palin and I believe Greta honestly likes and admires her.

I would agree with you EXCEPT I don’t see how anyone of high intelligence can be a scientologist with a straight face.

Have you watched her lately? She moved far beyond the latest missing person stories long ago.

She and her husband supported Hillary, but Greta seemed to become close to Palin during the campaign. At any rate, if she is a staunch Dem, she is certainly able to put aside her views to conduct fair interviews.

The only time I ever questioned her brains was letting the obviously “spelling challenged” person (from the link) “get” to her and essentially taking a poll.

She has too much brainpower to respond to some turkey posting in the basement wearing his WWF boxers, with Frito crimbs in the creases, prolly drinking 3.2 beer. LOL

The visual of the critic is rather unpleasant.
