YUBA CITY, Calif. -- Family members on Friday lamented the shooting death of a woman by Yuba City police officers, calling the shooting unjustified.

Meantime, the Sutter County District Attorney's Office said the officers claim they were forced to fire because the woman wielded a shotgun.

Between 9 and 9:30 p.m., a U.S. Census worker knocked on the door of a home on Mariner Loop. A man inside answered the door either holding or pointing a handgun, the district attorney's office said.

I want to know the cops were arresting the man. I think he had a perfect right to be in possession of firearm in his own home.

The law says you are supposed to be counted and behind every law is the threat of force to the point it will kill. Looks like the elderly lady didn’t want to be counted so she paid for her choice with death. The system worked!/s

This happened in a nice neighborhood. The man probably thought no census worker would be out in the dark of night.

The U.S. Census Bureau has not yet responded on why the worker was in the neighborhood at that time.

BS they are asking to start something as this case shows. Why was the man being arrested? His home, His property, His Liberty has been taken away, and now his wife (assuming married), This is unacceptable behavior such as the MCPD escorting SEIU protester to someones home.

There was another story on FR earlier today where a census worker was out after 10 PM. Don’t they know that bothering people in the dark is dangerous?

Insane. Shot seven times! The census worker and the police involved should all be hung.

Another victim of the Khalifornistan Police State.

How is it legal to arrest someone for answering the door at night while armed in one’s own home?

She should have fired first. Cops who violate the Second and Fourth Amendments deserve what ever they get.

I wonder if the cops were in uniform. It’s never a good idea to point a shotgun at the cops....unless you are going to fire, that is.

I got a call from a census worker, he had come by when we were not home, in a rural area. I refuse to fill out any form.

I told him,"I can tell you right now there are two of is living here ,both American citizens, thats all you will get from me,if you want to come here, you wont get anything else, I won't sign a form or do anything else. I won't let you in my house. And if you stay I will assume you to be trespassing!"

He said.' Just trying to do my job."

I said. " The census is politicized by the president, I do not want to have any thing to do with it. Why did you take the GPS location of my home last fall?" ( He had no answer.)

I said, "Do not come here, stay away."

He hung up. Thats it. I do no expect any one here and if they are, I will be treating them as trespassers.

Until the census is moved back from the White House to the Secy of Commerce exclusively, I will not even talk to them. They are agents of a fascist dictator who means to remove our liberties, take our ealth, and disfigure our nation. He is an object of my direspect and hatred. He will get no help from me to remove our liberties. I will fight him at the polls and then with my neighbors armed, from every mountain in the state if I have to.

That is just the way it is.

Exactly.

If someone knocked on MY door after 9 at night, I not only would not open the door - I'd not answer it - I'd call someone to come help.

Especially in the country. Not even friends or family would be coming to the house without first calling. Anyone knocking on the door, unannounced, that late at night is reason for alarm...and caution.

There have been cases where perps have pretended to be census takers to get into a home.

heck, there was a thread last week about a woman recognizing a census worker as a sex offender. I wouldn’t answer the door that late either.

It was not too bright of the woman to point a shotgun at police (of cuss the article does not say what notice was given that the police were police). That is an invitation to get shot first and have questions asked later. The time to challenge police is later, in court. I think it unlikely any jury is going to award anything or convict and it’s really not honest to discuss the situation without all the pertinent details.

Notice they say HOLDING or Pointing;so even having a weapon in the presence of the king’s men means execution?

Alas, you too are falling for rabble rousing. The cops came to arrest the man for the allegedly illegal act of allegedly possibly pointing a gun at the census taker at the door. So far the legal sympathy is heavily towards the household, were it allowed to play out. Then the WOMAN pointed a gun at the cops, and blew it all. Literally.

The cops shouldn’t have even been there;the census worker should have been told “you’re lucky ,buddy, now go home and don’t go knocking on doors after dark”.

It sounds like the man was within his rights to be armed on his own property and the cops had no right to arrest him for it. That being the case, the woman had a right to point the shotgun at the police and should have shot. “Authorities” acting outside of the color of law are not protected by it. They were kidnappers at that point, not police officers.

This doesn’t fly in court. Woman would be sentenced to death if not killed in shootout.
