Obama Admin: "If there's a successful terrorist attack, we will have to act (within Pakistan)"
New York Times ^

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — The Obama administration has delivered new and stiff warnings to Pakistan after the failed Times Square car bombing that it must urgently move against the nexus of Islamic militancy in the country’s lawless tribal regions, American and Pakistani officials said. Related

Overseas, an Enemy That May Mutate and Even Grow (May 9, 2010) Times Topic: Times Square Bomb Attempt (May 1, 2010) The American military commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, met with the Pakistani military chief, Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, at his headquarters here on Friday and urged Pakistan to move more quickly in beginning a military offensive against the Pakistani Taliban and Al Qaeda in North Waziristan, Americans and Pakistanis familiar with the visit said. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the delicacy of continuing diplomatic efforts here.

The Pakistani-American man who admitted to the Times Square attack, Faisal Shahzad, 30, told American investigators that he had received training in North Waziristan, the main base for the Pakistani Taliban, Al Qaeda and other militant groups.

The new pressure from Washington was characterized by both the Pakistani and American officials as a sharp turnaround from the relatively polite encouragement adopted by the Obama administration in recent months. And it comes amid increasing debate within the administration about how to expand the American military’s influence — and even a boots-on-the-ground presence — on Pakistani soil.

Though the bombing in Times Square failed, Mr. Shahzad’s ability to move back and forth between the United States and Pakistan has heightened fears in the Obama administration that another attempt at a terrorist attack could succeed.

“We are saying, ‘Sorry, if there is a successful attack, we will have to act’ ” within Pakistan, one of the American officials said.

There’s a big difference between telling the Pakistani government this, and making a public statement about it. By going public, Obama has just invited a serious attack.

“Obama Admin: “If there’s a successful terrorist attack, we will have to act (within Pakistan)”

Translation, “you get a free one, make it count.”

We live in troubling times. Prospects for an October surprise — unintentional...or intentional... — are growing by the week.

Oh please. Hussein making threats to ANYONE other than white, working, taxpaying American citizens? I’m sure they’re just shaking in their shoes in Pakistan.

If we apply Nancy Pelosi’s approach to drugs from Mexico (which is to emphasize drug rehab in the U.S. rather than drug interdiction at the border) to that of terrorism, we’ll deal with the terrorists AFTER their attacks in the U.S., rather than stop them from coming from Pakistan.. Right Nancy?

Exactly. I’d like to know how many people have to die for the attack to be categorized as successful by the OBlahblah administration. 1,000? 10,000? Somehow I don’t think the Pakies are quacking in their sandals.

This was a succesfull attack. Even if the bomb doesn’t go off it inceases, once again the world wide security efforts to drain us. Maybe they didn’t want it to really go off..just prove how vunerable we are.

What the frick!!!!

Pakistan does not help root out terrorist in Waziristan Province. The ‘war lords/Pakistani gangster wanna-bes’ run the province not the central gov’t.

Screw the little 4th rate pufferdom and its leader.

Shouldn’t the Obama Admin act within the US first? They let this guy do this, after removing him from watchlist or whatever.

He means he'll have to send Hillary to Pakistan on a "Listening Tour" to find out what we're doing wrong to incite such hatred, and how we can better appease the people of color whom we have so egregiously offended.

Since the Pakistani government has nuclear warheads, they get a free one on destroying one or more American cities before we “crack down” on them, huh? How reassuring!

Right, you feckless, Fascist, Community Agitating, moron, just how is it Paki's responsibility to control "OUR BORDERS?" How's about you clean house over at YOUR Dept of Homeland [IN]Security???

Wow! What Dear Leader means is the next time he meets Pres Mumlikat, he will only bow a little; that and we will cut the latest $600 Million "Bribe" by 5%.

After other countries watching O'Bozzo's song and dance towards Iran, who is actually going to be worried about any "threat" this Islamic-appeasing, moonbat makes?
