Hillary Clinton - supreme commander of Israel?
Jpost ^ | 4-8-10 | EARL COX

Supporters of Israel were probably not surprised at the scolding Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shortly after Vice President Joseph Biden's March visit to Israel. Media reports said that Clinton chewed Netanyahu out over the decision to build new homes in the area that the Palestinians claim belongs to them and their future state, and she stressed that American officials saw this as "a major insult."

A State Department spokesman related that Clinton told Netanyahu "she could not understand how this could happen, particularly in light of the United States' strong commitment to Israel's security." Which, being interpreted, means that since the US gives Israel a little military aid, it therefore has the right to control the government of Israel.

Perhaps, at this point, we ought to examine just how committed the US really is to Israel's security. The US certainly has partnered with Israel in military equipment and aircraft. But the US has never sent a single soldier to fight for Israel in any of its wars with its neighbors since Israel declared independence in 1948. During this time, however, it has sent US troops to Korea, Vietnam, Kosovo, Serbia, Afghanistan and Iraq. And ever since the Oslo Accords, the US has been pressuring Israel to surrender "land for peace" to her Arab enemies.

Media reports showed that pundits in Washington were using such adjectives as "bizarre," "inexplicable," "outrageous," and "counterproductive" to describe the Obama administration's surprising diplomatic assault on Israel.

What's wrong, Hillary - did the FJB dare to defy you?

Better put some ice on it.

Just for the record (cause I don't know the answer), as the United States ever been asked to send soldiers? I'm sure we've sent trainers and advisors haven't we?

I'm not talking just under Obama, I mean ever.

No, the US has never been asked to send soldiers. The idea with a Jewish homeland was not that it should be defended by someone else.

Actually, in 1967 - 1974/5 (at least) US involvement would have ben very risky, and US pilots would in all likelihood have been ended up firing on Russian pilots.

Didn’t think so. Seemed like press spin to me so had to check.

Asking about the USA sending "trainers" is maybe a little unintentionally vague -- because the US Military frequently does training exercises with the Israeli Defense Force, as one of the few foreign militaries able to give our guys a workout using well-matched but "alien" equipment and tactics. So, yeah, we're "training" Israeli troops; just as they are training ours.

But that's hardly "favoritism" towards Israel; I think our guys would be happy to play in the Arab kids' sandbox, too, if any of them fielded a Military establishment which was advanced and competent enough to be worth training against -- it's just that none of them do. Turkey, maybe -- but even that, is with our help.

I close with a couple quotes on the matter from a great American Congressman and his former chief staffer:

In case of emergency, Mecca Delenda Est.

There is nothing honorable about Ronald Paul’s anti-Israel policy.

Israel nuclear weaponry has never been confirmed.

What?! Do you think that Obama should be infringing on Israeli sovereignty?

Look, there's only two sides here:

Either he should, or he should not. Those are your choices. Pick a side!!!

Israel nuclear weaponry has never been confirmed.

Doesn't matter. As long as Israel can Break Mecca In Case Of Emergency, I don't care whether or not they confirm that they can. The important thing is that Israel have the capacity to defend herself, not what she admits to hostile journalists.

False choice. You inserted Ronald Paul. He’s not a player. Thank God for that.

Americans were present and fighting at the birth of Israel.. Americans died unavenged for Israel.. USS Liberty.

Half the battles we have fought with the MudSlime have been over our relationship with Israel..

Real Americans will still stand and fight to defend Israel against the depredations of the Islamofacists.

The Hildebeast and Hemmroid N Chef.. They are in power due in no small part to the unwillingness of Conservative Jews in Israel to condemn.. JINOs here in the US..

Plenty of blame to go aroundf for this situation where the American People support Israel and our elected leaders do not.

Well, neither are you or me. At least as a Congressman, Ron Paul does have some input on these issues.

I was just wondering whether or not you agreed with Ron Paul's sentiments, that Obama should not be infringing on Israeli Sovereignty. I'm pleased to see that you do agree with Ron Paul on this important issue.

I think the answer is that we have not sent advisors to Israel, but they have sent advisors to us. It is true that they have gotten training in American aircraft, but aside from that, not much.

Ronald Paul is a warped hater of Israel and Jews. I support Israel, and our aid to her, so your comments to me were wrong and premature.

Why do you support Foreign Aid, when Bibi Netanyahu says that Israeli dependence on Foreign Aid is detrimental to Israeli security, and the Israeli Free-Market advocates tell us that Foreign Aid is the greatest obstacle to Israeli economic freedom and prosperity?

Why do you support a policy that Bibi Netanyahu says is harmful to Israeli security, and the Jerusalem Institute says is harmful to Israeli economic freedom?

Well?

He said that in 1996, fourteen years ago, and in a perfect world, wouldn’t it be nice were Israel able to stand on her own without aid from the US?

“You betcha.”

I’m not going to play your PAULTARD games. I know all I need to know about Ronald Paul, thankyouverymuch. He is a Republican In Name Only, and in truth, he’s a cranky Bircher/Libertarian, who’s recently endorsed the traitor, Adam Kokesh, but we’ve had this discussion before, and I’m not interested in a redux. Talk to yourself or find someone else. Good night.

Heh, heh, heh.

It chafes your hide to have to admit that Ron Paul has declared strong support for Israeli sovereignty, doesn't it? Smarts a bit, does it?

Well, get used to it. See, I honestly don't think that Clinton and Obama should be infringing on Israeli Sovereignty. And I'm happy to quote Ron Paul in making that case plainly and well. I support Ron Paul's advocacy for greater Israeli security and independence, so I expect I'll be quoting his wise words on Middle Eastern politics threads with some regularity.

The U.S. should not infringe on Israel’s sovereignty. Howsomever, when ever we give money, etc to another country it should be understood that it is either strings free or not. If not, then requests for certain actions will be made. If those requests are ignored then monies, etc should be pulled.
I believe that we should be assisting Israel with very, very few strings.
