Economists, political scientists, reporters and pundits spend too much of their time looking at dysfunctional societies and trying to explain why there are poverty, joblessness and hopelessness. In many ways, Haiti is easy to explain - no rule of law and 200 years of corrupt and incompetent governments. Switzerland is the polar opposite. It has almost no corruption and has the rule of law with honest, competent judges and government administrators. The question should be, "What can we learn from the Switzerlands of the world about how to do things right" rather than, "What is wrong with the Haitis of the world?" Switzerland manages to run a smaller government as a share of gross domestic product than the United States and most other countries while providing a higher level of service, security, prosperity and freedom. How does it do that?

Switzerland doesn’t have many of the problems we have.
I love Switzerland but frankly..I cannot stand their people...the time you tell your whole life story they are still looking for the word: “Hello”...drives me nuts. So bizarre that in such a great country - you are right on the economical side and the safety side and the beauty - their people seems so slow. Very very annoying.
Not one warm beach area there - I don’t think Rush would like that :-)
It is called genetics....the people of Swiss heritage in the U.S., Canada, Australia etc. live about the same as their genetic kin in Switzerland......and Africans live the same in Haiti or the south side of Chicago....nurture means very little as depressing as that is to hear......
Switzerland is a relatively small and mostly homogeneous society. Our ‘problems’ are merely the result of our differences. Switzerland isn’t one of world’s great nations, although it is nice for the Swiss.

I spent one year in New Zealand. It IS definitely where I would go - not ONE second of hesitation - if I had to leave this great country (and if I had the money...) . They are pretty tough on immigration also. But people are the NICEST in the world - the country is absolutely gorgeous - we had a car problem and got stuck on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, near Bay of Island up north - 10 minutes later a farmer came and told us we could stay with them until our car is fixed...took 4 days - for 4 days they feed us and we slept there and all - incredible people there. Freedom, smile, beauty and all.

Never heard New Zealand is socialis - but I guess people never heard America is socialist either - but frankly I hate to hear what you said on NZ. That’s a fabulous country and the people are truly unique. Now yes, I guess you are right for the defense but..who wants to attack NZ???
I know plenty of African Immigrants who work very hard, are quite sucessful and promote higher education for the children etc. They also tend to look down on our minority population.
It’s smaller than West Virginia and has roughly the same size economy as Pennsylvania.
