Does anyone think it is time to restore some sense of order to the United States ??? I do.
The two-party system has fostered a climate where legislators have become beholden to their party at the expense of those that they represent - their constituents.
The Constitution is a GREAT document, but it is not perfect. And there are some housekeeping chores that are needed to clean-up some deficiencies in the document. After all, it was written over 200 years ago - and the Founding Fathers could never have imagined the mess we are in now.
However, they did leave us with one thing - the Constitutional Convention. It rips the Constitution out of the hands of Congress and places with the States.
See this link:

I did not post it as the title of this thread, as the author is absolutely AGAINST the Constitutional Convention. He does, however, provide information on its current status.
As of this time, there are 22 states that have called for it, 18 that have never voted for it, and 10 who voted - but later rescinded it.
It only takes 34 states to FORCE Congress to call one. Of the 10 states that rescinded, I think that all 10 would be inclined to re-instate [if only to repeal the healthcare law].
That leaves 2 states of the 18 that have never voted for it to be turned. Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia look like candidates to me.
What do you all think ???
I'm not calling for total repeal - but Burger's statement shows that a Constitutional Convention WOULD NOT be constrained by Congress.
I didn’t get the thing to hyperlink:
It is time. I am not sure I want a Constitutional Convention right now. There are too many commies in power who will figure out how to get their way. Let's wait until after the Nov. elections, or after Obama is voted out. A Con Con could work against us at this point in time.
What do I think....got lost with this crap jerk.
The Constitution is just fine if it were adhered to, go stir your sh!t up on DU.
NO CON-CON!!!
THE CON’’S ARE RUNNING THE ASYLUM.
BESIDES, YOU WILL BE CONNED INTO SOMETHING YOU DON’T WANT!!!!
Kenya Man, Kenya Man,
Does whatever a Kenyan Can...
LOL!!!
What do you really mean? /s LOL
No way Jose. There is nothing wrong with our constitution. A constitutional convention now would just result in the final nail in the coffin for our Republic.
Having a Constitutional convention in this political climate, with such treasonous people wandering about is like contemplating open heart surgery on a filthy mattress in a feed lot.
Man, you get worked up pretty quickly, huh?
I do tend to agree with you on this subject but come on, is that reaction REALLY necessary?
Because there are not enough liberal states in the union. This is one reason why liberals want to eliminate the electoral college — the extra weighting towards simply being a state skews the results to the right.
Don’t throw your crap label around. This is an idea. A dangerous idea but an idea.
I would just as soon see the US break up as needed and reformulate later. I am not crazy about the current ‘marriage’. A Con-con has some merits as long as states can form compacts and say ‘enough for now’. We wouldn’t have had a civil war if states had had an opportunity to opt out.
Use your ‘jerk’ and ‘crap’ label on DU yourself.
You are right, something needs to be done, but the Con-Con is NOT something we should even be thinking.
If you are a software whiz why don’t you trace the whole code first? The Con Con does NOT give you a weighted average of states’ opinions. It gives you whatever passed muster with 3/4 of the states. There are a lot of scantily populated conservative states to the west. This is why liberals hate the electoral college, by the way.
I’d say give the courts a chance first with what we got now (also because Congress is involved in the Con-Con process, we would like at least the House to be Republican) but this is an ace we can stick in our sleeve.
But couldn’t a CC be limited in scope based on the language used to call for it (via the state houses)?
