St. Vincent's hospital in New York has a little bit of a debt problem -- about $700 million worth, according to the New York Post. They also owed New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning(notes) over $500,000 for marketing work he's done for them, but Eli, aware of their debt problems, told them no thanks. He wants them to keep their money. He'll continue doing fund-raising work for the hospital for free, too.
Obviously, it's the right thing for Eli to do. What kind of person -- especially one with Eli's money -- would demand that a bankrupt hospital keep paying him, especially when they're already cutting salaries and jobs? "Shut down your Oncology ward! The quarterback needs his money!" No, that's not quite Eli's style.
Unfortunately, it might be too late for Eli to escape bad publicity for having already accepted a good chunk of change from the hospital. A separate New York Post article quotes WFAN sports radio and e-mails to the newspaper blasting Manning. Before agreeing to release St. Vincent's from their obligation, Manning had already made over $500,000 from them.

Wow, they actually paid him? I mean, on the face of it, I guess there’s no serious issue there but I thought people did things like that to help and out of a sense of charity. I could see paying incidentals like food on the site of filming but 500K
really, I thought the corporate endorsements and other deals and the huge salaries QBs make would have been sufficient.
That’s nice of Eli but how can that hospital be that much in the hole? Yikes.
Illegals. It's that simple. The government demands that the hospitals treat anyone who enters the ER. There are a LOT of hospitals teetering on financial ruin, and many of those are located in illegal-heavy areas.
I suspected as much. Here in L.A. many have gone under but the local media never really tells you why. But we all know.

Barack Hussein Obama mmm....mmmmm....mmmm
The Manning boys.....the ad men....I’ll never again have any respect for his brother, Peyton, after he stormed off the field at the end of the Super Bowl and did NOT congratulate Drew Brees or any of the Saints.
WHY? Because the spoiled, little brat was mad because his team didn’t win.
A** HOLE
Don’t worry about St. Vincent’s Hospital being broke & in debt.........ObamaCare IS ON THE WAY........
Does a hospital really need to spend that much on advertising?
WTG Eli. It’s the right thing to do.
When he was signed to the Giants I believe he was awarded the biggest contract in NFL history.
Lot of good that did the giants last season...

Yup. Except of course the hospitals in major arteries like in DT. The ones accepting more illegals are the foundation-based medical centers and the USC-sponsored hospitals. My GF works as nurse in one, doesnt speak Spanish and still copes.
St Barack. Hmmm.
If someone goes to the ER and complains of stomach pain they will probably get a CT, ultrasound, blood tests and take up a bed for 2-4 hours. Add up the doctor fees to read the X-Rays, fee for labatory tests, fee for using a bed etc and an ER can lose 5-10K for a very basic ER visit where nothing invasive is done, other than starting an IV
The King-Drew Medical Center Emergency has been closed so many times and each time the misfits march in protest. They can’t have it both ways. The staff has to be paid, and the gov’t is paying them nickles on the dollars they owe for the illegals. Circular madness.
We know a doc for Kaiser and she told us that Obamacare would be a $$$ boon for Kaiser, BUT right now simply dont have the personell to cope with the massive influx if it were to happen, which will result in deaths and lawsuits.
The problem is not Eli - the problem is illegals get endless benefits including free healthcare at ANY hospital for anything.
I am sure this is why this hospital is broke - like the REST of America in BANKRUPT because of illegals.
“Before agreeing to release St. Vincent’s from their obligation, Manning had already made over $500,000 from them.”
So it’s wrong to be duly compensated for services rendered? Besides, his half-mil is hardly the cause of their $700 mil hole. I say focus on what he does for them without obligation.
