That’s nice of Eli but how can that hospital be that much in the hole? Yikes.

Illegals. It's that simple. The government demands that the hospitals treat anyone who enters the ER. There are a LOT of hospitals teetering on financial ruin, and many of those are located in illegal-heavy areas.

nearly 100% of hospitals lose money in the ER and departments like cardiology and oncology. They make their money in plastics and elective surgery. However when you have people using the ER as their own clinic you are going to run into trouble.

If someone goes to the ER and complains of stomach pain they will probably get a CT, ultrasound, blood tests and take up a bed for 2-4 hours. Add up the doctor fees to read the X-Rays, fee for labatory tests, fee for using a bed etc and an ER can lose 5-10K for a very basic ER visit where nothing invasive is done, other than starting an IV

Illegals and indigents.
NY State has the highest cost per indigent patient in the world. And every year the NY Legislature barely if at all increases reimbursement to the hospitals.

Blame goes to so many sectors of NY state society it’s hard to pick a place to start. Been like this since the Johnson administration.

Probably Charity Care is a part of it and if they are heavily into Medicaid patients (where Obama wants us all to be) their reimbursement to charges sucks. Medicaid doesn’t even cover costs.

Would you want to trust your life to a bankrupt hospital that can’t fill its beds just on the word of a famous quarterback?
