Some unprecedented news today, folks. Never in the history of the United Nations has a U.S. President taken the chairmanship of the powerful UN Security Council. Perhaps it is because of what could arguably be a Constitutional prohibition against doing so. To wit: Section 9 of the Constitution says:
No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.
The UN has a standing military force, we are held to its global policies, and we have an Ambassador to the UN just as we do to other foreign States. Clearly the argument can be made that the UN can be considered a foreign State. Our heads of State dont serve at the UN, Ambassadors do.

He grandstanded causing Skarkozy of France to comment on him just playing around.
I am certain the Democrat-run Congress will give 0bama the consent he needs.
I don't see a danger in him doing this, but it stinks as a precedent and it smacks our UN ambassador in the face. Further, he will not have reaped any points for it. The rest of the world will have seen through it as a self-aggrandizing stunt--which it is/was.
Does this mean that Sudan and Zimbabwe will be getting some attention.

I think this development may be related to Obama’a desire to assist Madeline Albright in Chairing the Group of Experts who are deciding NATO’s NEW STRATEGIC CONCEPT.
In 2009, the NATO Secretary General appointed a group of 12 experts to facilitate the reflection and consultation phase in the preparation of NATO’s new strategic concept.
The group represents a broad spectrum of large and small NATO members and offers a balanced combination of insiders and outsiders, including from the private sector, think tanks and the academic community. Dr. Albright chairs the group with Mr. Jeroen van der Veer, former CEO of Royal Dutch Shell, as vice-chair.

However, since the Dutch coalition government collapsed overnight due to Afghanistan (the Dutch cannot afford to stay longer than August in Afghanistan, if that), it appears that Mr. Jeroen van der Veer’s Vice Chair position on NATO’s group of experts suddenly needs filled.
