Angry voters look to government: Do something!
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 12/28/9 | Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writer

The 2009 political year began on a high note of "change" and "hope" and ended in a thud of stalemate, despair and public fury over the economy, health care reform and the war in Afghanistan.

No wonder it may go down as the year of the angry voter.

Americans will remember 2009 as much for the grassroots protests - at "Tea Party" rallies and town hall meetings crashed by conservatives to demonstrations by public-option-favoring anti-war progressives - as the Beltway grudge matches that characterized President Obama's first year in office.

In California, residents endured months of bitter, partisan battles in Sacramento over the state's multibillion-dollar budget deficit and the painful cuts, furloughs and program closures that came with it.

But even as they put the year in the rearview mirror, Americans shared common ground across the political divide, with deepening worries about their jobs, their disintegrating savings accounts and their changing health care.

The common message for their state and local elected officials: Do something.

"Voters are angry; I think they're beyond anger," says Democratic strategist Darry Sragow. "They're desperately unhappy and desperately pessimistic, and they have given up hope. This is beyond malaise."

Going into 2010, a year of critical statewide and midterm congressional elections highlighted by races for governor and a U.S. Senate seat in California, the political mood is darker than in recent memory, veteran political observers say.

"It's been the most significant erosion of trust that I've seen in my lifetime - in the press, financial markets and religious institutions," Democratic strategist and former White House spokesman Chris Lehane said.

Typical Democrat response - Do something.

As for myself I would say - Do Nothing, Do it consistently.

Things will undoubtedly get interesting in CA. The state is irretrievably bankrupt and there is *NO* mathematical solution.

"It's been the most significant erosion of trust that I've seen in my lifetime - in the press, financial markets and religious institutions," Democratic strategist and former White House spokesman Chris Lehane said.

The Socialist Left has been trying for DECADES to tear down our nation's institutions: academic, government, religious, and economic.

The Socialists won.

Saul Alinsky was all about tearing down institutions, not offering solutions, especially any groundswell support for a new way of doing things.

How many chances do they get?

This is why 2010 will be a very ugly year:

About half the country wants Obama to disappear. He's done enough damage. Too much spending, too much meddling in major economic areas, too much weakness in foreign affairs. We want less of everything.

Another half of th ecountry wants Obama to take more control. He needs to step it up and walk over those pesky Republicans. Spend more. Regulate more. Sign more international treaties. They want more of everything.

Nullification, secession, revolution -- the wheel is in spin and it will stop on one of those three spaces.

I much prefer it when they are not in session ie doing nothing. If we could just make it permanent.

“The Socialist Left has been trying for DECADES to tear down our nation’s institutions: academic, government, religious, and economic.

I couldn’t agree more. We ran from the public schools, and let the socialists educate the majority of American kids. Now we have 2+ generations of mush heads who can’t possibly think critically, and long for government control of everything.

When the lawmakers refuse town halls or even vists by constituents; and when the Congress of the United States no longer cares about melting office phone lines and overflowing mailboxes; and when organizations like ACORN, SEIU, AFL-CIO, and the Apollo Alliance are dictating and drafting legislation in Washington, D.C.; then we have failed in our duties as Americans; we have failed in our duties as voters and governors of our own freedoms; and we have failed to secure a safe, open, and free society for the future.

Congratulations Liberals, Leftists, Progressives, Feminists, Homosexuals, illegal aliens, Democrats, Socialists, Marxists, and Communists. You have single-handedly destroyed the single greatest nation in the history of Earth by defrauding the American people and their open elections.

Obama must go. America cannot stand for another 3 years of this man. Show us proof as to his citizenship, show us his educational credentials, his Master’s thesis and all other applicable curricula vitae or demand a swift and immediate impeachment or get up the gall to march on DC en masse to take back this country!

It is no longer anger; it's outrage.

Get this President out of office by impeachment ASAP!

Looking to government to fix the economy is like looking to rock lyrics for the meaning of life.

Rush: The Trees

There is unrest in the forest,
There is trouble with the trees,
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas.

The trouble with the maples,
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade.

There is trouble in the forest,
And the creatures all have fled,
As the maples scream "Oppression!"
And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
"The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light."
Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe, and saw.

And example of such philosophical depth...

If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow
Don’t be alarmed, now
It’s just a spring clean for
The May queen.

“Do nothing would be better”

Cleaning out their drawers and packing their suitcases would be best. Of course we have to stop them at the border to reclaim the stolen wealth they’ve absconded with.
