Two Month Unemployment Benefits Extension; Unemployment Benefits Extended To February 2010
Red, White and Blue Press ^ | December 18, 2009 | Issac Lewis

Congress passed a two-month unemployment extension bill for those who were facing the possibility of losing their unemployment insurance benefits. The unemployment benefits extension program is set to go into February 2010, but there has been a great deal of confusion as to what the unemployment extension means and who qualifies. Originally, a six-month extension was wanted, however, the bill passed a two-month extension, which does the following:

To begin, the extension will allow the continuation of Emergency Unemployment Continuation Program, which provides unemployment benefits in relation to a specific state’s unemployment rate. Secondly, the unemployment benefits extension continues the Extended Benefits Program, which added 13 to 20 weeks of unemployment benefits to unemployment benefits for certain states. Also, Federal Additional Compensation will continue and under this program unemployment benefits were increased by $25 per week.

These three areas of unemployment benefits are what will continue under the two-month unemployment extension by Congress. As far as who specifically qualifies for these extensions will be determined by what stage or tier of the unemployment benefits process you are in, and as per the many questions and comments on rwbpress.com concerning similar articles on unemployment, consulting your local unemployment agency the best way to know if you qualify.

Any additional sources or info can be posted in the comments section to help others with this complex unemployment benefits extension or if you need some reading material consult the links below from the House of Representatives and Senate. The first link regarding unemployment benefits extension is the source for the main body of this article the others are from the bills in the Senate and House.

Will the government soon provide us with apples to sell on the street corner? Anyone know how to hop a boxcar or make rainbow stew?

My neighbor has been on unemployment for over a year. The only reason he started to look for a job was because his checks were about to stop. This is such BS.

Well my unemployment runs out this week. Hopefully I will qualify. I have been paying into for all these years, hopefully it will be available when I need it, like now.

Same here.... she never sought work until she actually ran out of benefits. Found work cleaning houses.....as soon as the last extension went into effect.....ever-widening caboose back on the couch.

"I have been paying into for all these years, hopefully it will be available when I need it, like now."

I worked helping veterans at a state unemployment office for about 15 years: Unemployment Insurance (UI) is paid for by employer taxes. The employee doesn't pay into it.

program unemployment benefits were increased by $25 per week.

Aren't you just so grateful that the government is so kind as to forcefully take that money out of your paycheck every week?

In NY we are looking at over 265,000 people running out of benefits in a few weeks (without this extension)...what happens when the spigot finally runs dry and there aren’t jobs to be had....
REVOLUTION, and it will be against the Socialists.

In NY you do not pay into the system, just the Employers. (for direct payments) BUT yours and my tax dollars ARE going for the extensions!!

I hope this is just for the folks who have exhausted their benefits from being out of work forever, and not everyone's claim. (All claims for 2009 are set to expire.)

I made way more in 2009 than I did 2008, so filing a new claim for the start of 2010 will pay more.

Just another example of the man keeping a brother down!

Hurray!!!

Oh, when you liberal friends rave about this, ask if they know how much the extension is? Cause it’s $25 a week.

I hate to tell you, the extension isn’t an extension of what you have been bringing in, it’s $25 a week. My husband got so mad he broke something when he slammed the paper on the table. He felt horrible, but I understood his sentiment. He’s worked at the same place for 27 years and he feels screwed.

I won’t argue with you. As I said, I worked there 15 years, and unless everything has changed, it’s paid for out of employer taxes and employees don’t pay into it.
