I don't get the BCS. Don't get it at all.
I don't get why banks are making it so hard to get a loan when the main reason the economy is staggering is because people can't get loans.
I don't get why Americans watch so many shows about dancing.
I don't get how Taylor Swift can be considered country.
But what I really don't get is Sarah Palin.
I haven't understood Sarah Palin since I first heard her name as John McCain's running mate in the 2008 presidential election, may it forever rest in peace.
She was a first-term governor from a far flung state; she and McCain did not win, didn't even come close; she told a bunch of misleading untruths, if not outright lies, about the bridge to nowhere and other myths; she bought a lot of clothes on other people's credit cards; and then, as a kind of encore, she quit as Alaska's governor 18 months before her term was up.
It seems to me her chief claim to fame is she looks like Tina Fey.
And yet, there she was Wednesday, signing copies of her new book, "Going Rogue," at the Salt Lake Costco as hundreds lined up to meet her.
Mob scenes like the one at Costco are being replicated all across the country. The book has already sold over a million copies! In three weeks!
I needed help to understand what fuels the Sarah Palin express. I turned to the most obvious suspects: the first people waiting in line at Costco.
They were, by name, Shirley McClay and Gilda Brooks, both of Logan, and Kathy Larsen of Layton. All three women recently made the acquaintance of their 60s.(continued)

Some folks, left and right, are scared, really scared of Sarah Palin. Don’t you love it?
Well I wonder if that he does not get a major news personality is a clue to this guy that he should seek out a new profession? He is probably not smart enough to take that clue.
If you "don't get" the subject, why should anyone read your column on it? Your expertise seems suspect right there.
But please call us when you do get it, because "it" might be something significant that you just aren't smart enough to "get."
I have the answer to that. Banks aren't making loans because federal bank examiners are going over their balance sheets with a fine tooth comb. Journalists wouldn't understand this type of cause and effect because it involves the private sector. But surprise, surprise - when the feds start subjecting banks to intense scrutiny, that type of activity tends to make bank officers very nervous about making new loans.
if he can’t figure out why bank are making it hard to lend out, then he’s pretty stupid
Banks are making it hard because the risk are too great. The problem with the economy IS NOT because the bank don’t lend out, but because they lent out too much and too easily. Main street failed (can’t pay the loan), so the bank failed.
you’re describing events that happened in the past - the opposite problem is occuring now.
jourbalist or gerbilist - he/she/it will never tell...
This guy is beyond the possibility of being helped.
Do you know if this guy is related to former Mormon President Ezra Taft Benson? IIRC, the Benson family are big supporters of Mitt Romney which would explain the writer’s obvious prejudice against Gov. Palin.
This columnist is an avid bike rider. Nuff said.
It has little to do with jobs. Small businesses cannot get loans. I have a high credit score, never missed a payment, and there is simply no money out there. They will issue secured loans but you put up a high-valued asset for a fraction of the money. No go.
I will not hire and am doing what I can to get out of everything owed to banks. Let me sell my house (on the market) and I am done with banks and loans.
While my business is fine right now, I am terrified of the future. The govt takes everything in taxes and there is no fallback. Banks won’t lend so there is no security for dips and there is certainly no room for expansion.
Sell my house, cut back on business, and reduce my tax burden. Worst incentive program ever created for kick-starting the economy.
Lay off of bike riders. A lot of hard-core conservatives in Colorado ride bikes.
Plase she is 10 times more popular than whats her face.
What these anti-Palin people don't get is basic arithmetic and the reality of this most perilous time in the history of the nation.
If they had lived outside their sheltered existence for the past couple of decades, and up through this communist takeover, they would already know; they would "get it".
Landslide conservative wins in next year's congressional elections, and Palin being elected in 2012 (or someone with very similar conservative principles), just might keep the USA from degenerating into a Dark Age, Mad Max type of existence. That existence will not work very well for the wine & caviar crowd, at all.
