Bay Area not maverick enough to read Palin book
SFGate ^ | 11-19-2009 | Steve Rubenstein

It might as well have cooties. Hardly anyone wants to touch the thing, or even get close to it.

The new autobiography by moose hunter and failed vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is harder to find in the Bay Area than a hockey mom. Some bookstores figure it's one of those grit-your-teeth First Amendment deals that principled booksellers must put up with from time to time.

But many nonchain bookstores won't handle it.

"Our customers are thinking people," said Nathan Embretson, a bookseller at Pendragon Books in Oakland. "They're not into reading drivel."

These are the idiots who call themselves “open-mided”.

Must be like a Soviet bookstore, all literature is Party Approved!

Lest we forget, this is how the “Reality Based” community operates. How they can claim that is beyond all logical thinking. Liberalism is a mental disorder and that is the true reality.

Honestly, you don’t live here, you cannot comprehend the insanity.

I grew up there, and I comprehend the insanity all too well. That's why I left 15 years ago and never looked back.

And you think Palin is a thinking person?

Palin is shallow and her book proves it.

Exactly. The so-called “Tolerant” homos are “thinking people” and not tolerant of other people’s views...the irony of this idiot.

Embretson is full of it. There are all kinds (as well as all kinks) of people in SF including conservatives. Just go into Chinatown and scout for Chiang Kai-shek portraits. Then go to the Latino blocks and look for Eduardo Verastiqui posters. Even across the Bay in the Berkeley campus there are conservative student groups. That little detail about the 1st amendment means more than freedom to speak as long as one agrees with the Harvey Milk types.

This article was hilarious. It was like reading one of the better Onion articles. In fact, I had to check to verify it was NOT the Onion.

Frankly, I don’t take them seriously so I can laugh. A lot.

This is the kind of behavior that destroys small booksellers. They complain that Amazon and B&N are stealing their business, then refuse to carry books for political reasons.

A couple years ago, a friend of mine went into a local bookstore,, looking for a conservative book. When he didn’t find it, he asked the clerk. The response? “We wouldn’t carry that kind of garbage.” The store went out of business last year.

"Our customers are thinking people," said Nathan Embretson,

Translation: "My regular customers are so psychotically left-wing that they would boycott the store if I dared carry it. They would deliberately rip the covers and walk out as a form of social protest. I fear for my safety if that book is seen in my store."

Leftists think that "thinking" means "agrees with me", and are often violently opposed to other viewpoints.

The Bay Area is comprised of some rather strange life forms. When you look at them, they almost seem human.

Imagine levels of insanity being measured on a dial. Now keep pumping in antidepressants, moral cowardice, hypocrisy and shame until the indicator moves all the way around the dial and points back straight up where it started - but it's not at zero, it's actually at 360.

Now imagine millions of people at that level of insanity organized into groups by thousands of cynical Leftists, who themselves are seething with barely suppressed rage underneath perpetual smiles, and who are obsessed with controlling through neurolinguistic programming and political correctness.

Welcome to the SF Bay Area.

Oh, that’s just their desire to be “elite” showing through.
They’re no better than anyone else, but they want you to think they are.

The funny thing is, in their definition, “thinking people” all should have the same [liberal] opinions on every topic,

whilst those who have opinions to the contrary are “non-thinking people”.

What a sour, dismissive review. A pro-Obama review, no less.

You understand that this is a Conservative site and that we don't put stock in left-wing political commentary?
