As the public debate over health care reform continues, many African-Americans are concerned that the minority of voices loudly denouncing a public option might sideline the real reform their community desperately needs.
From the cradle to the grave, African-Americans have poorer health outcomes: African-American infant mortality is more than double that of whites; African-American women make up 70 percent of new HIV/AIDS infections; three times as many black Americans die from diabetes as white Americans; and the life expectancy for whites is 78 years, compared with 73 years for all African-Americans and less than 70 years for African-American males.

Wouldn’t full reparations include repatriation?
Any “right” which bestows a material good upon a group of people will ultimately bankrupt the nation. If this isn’t an economic law, it should be.

I can’t believe it took this long for the first, “If you opppose government health care, you want to kill blacks” story to surface. There may have been others, but this is the first one I’ve seen that just comes out and says it.
Seems like the only fair thing to do, if we’re still guilty today for what took place in the 1600s to 1700s. We should return any of them that think they are due reparations. We pay them a sum and return them to their homeland. I wouldn’t dream of making them stay here in the land of the oppressors.
My thoughts exactly, only the African American and other low income families don’t realize that any government program is nothing more than modern slavery.
What kind of crap is this? Who in their right mind thinks government health care can possibly be better than what we have now? How is that supposed to change societal dynamics that, for example, lead to the high rate of diabetes among the black population?
Virtually all the things they are complaining about in that first paragraph are lifestyle things that only they can control. Black males have a shorter life expectancy as an average because many of them kill each other when they are teenagers, therefore skewing the statistic. Diabetes and heart disease are very often tied to other things that individuals control, such as obesity. Even infant mortality is tied to things such as maternal diet.
I remember a program at a Catholic hospital back in the 1970s. They provided a free pre-natal program for black ghetto residents that included things such as meal planning, pre-natal vitamins, etc. It was hard to get the girls to come to it, except that some of them were so young they didn’t have much choice. When asked at the beginning of the program what they ate for breakfast, the response was potato chips and Pepsi. When asked at the end of the program, the response was the same. In fact, that seemed to be what they ate for most meals. And the number of them who took the pre-natal vitamins could be counted on the fingers of one hand. They all got welfare and food stamps and WIC vouchers (or whatever their equivalent was then). They did absolutely nothing to help themselves or their babies.
Until the lower-income black population stops being so passive and expecting everybody else to live their lives for them, nothing is going to change, no matter how much money we throw at them. Better off blacks are doing them no favor by ignoring this and continuing to cover up for this dysfunctional group by blaming whitey.
When a hospital has to make a rationing decision, are political ramifications going to guide their decision?

It is also what we need to work for to avoid a full-on armed 2nd Civil War. The progressives of all colors are welcome to however much of each other they vote themselves.

Food stamps and other food welfare should be limited to healthy basic food and specifically prohibit using such food welfare to buy snack foods, soda, and junk food. Make them use that welfare money to buy bags of raw potatoes instead of potato chips, and packages of fresh meat and frozen vegetables instead of frozen dinners.
