The chairman of the House Republican Conference says its hogwash that GOP leaders are worried about what Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and the Tea Party movement are doing to their partys image.
In a story headlined Conservatives Roar; Republicans Tremble, POLICO reported Thursday that many top Republicans are growing worried that the partys chances for reversing its electoral routs of 2006 and 2008 are being wounded by the flamboyant rhetoric and angry tone of conservative activists and media personalities.
But House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) says its not so.
You know, the American people cherish their freedom of speech and a free and independent press. That's why I found this morning's headlines so troubling, Pence said Thursday. Goaded on by a White House increasingly intolerant of criticism, lately the national media has taken aim at conservative commentators in radio and television. Suggesting that they only speak for a small group of activists and even suggesting in one report today that Republicans in Washington are worried about their electoral effect.
Well, that's hogwash.
To suggest that men and women that are taking a stand for fiscal discipline and traditional values in the national debate today only speak for grassroots activists is absurd. As evidenced by the hundreds of thousands that filled town hall meetings this summer and the nearly a million Americans who gathered here in Washington in September. Millions of Americans, Republicans, Democrats and Independents are worried about liberal social policies and runaway federal spending, deficit and debt.
So to my friends in the so-called mainstream media I say, conservative talk show hosts may not speak for everybody but they speak for more Americans than you do.
Excellent. (Of course this does not mean that the other capons in GOP leadership aren’t worried)
The media is working overtime to divide and conquer the Republicans while hiding the huuuggggeeee divisions and fighting in the Ass Party.
Bullseye! Well done, Mr. Pence!
Yes, and there are some in the GOP who don’t go along, unfortunately the enemedia will blow them up and glorify those that don’t.
YES! We need more of this.
saw Pence in DC at the AFP Summit.....WOW! TREMENDOUS SPEAKER!!!! I TRULY WISH HE WERE OUR LEADER instead of Bonerhead...
Mike Pence Ping!
Agreed, and he may well be one day.
I’d say they speak for half of America. The half that isn’t looking for free handouts from the government. The half that won’t sacrifice freedom for a “feeling” of security.
As soon as one of those totally fictitious articles appears it is immediately dragged in here by the idiots who scream "RINO!" at everyone. Gee, it's like they're part of the operation.
Mike Pence will get a donation from me for this.
Oh, and I’ll post my glee and donation all over Twitter and Facebook too.
Mike Pence moves up everyday on my support list.
John Boehner, Eric Cantor, and Jeb Hensarling all support Scozzafava and these three amigos are now off my list...
You’re correct, IMO. At times I wonder about some of the posts and especially the third party ones, they’re losers.
Somebody has to. Tea parties (one way people can speak their minds) are all but forbidden. We’re intimidated and citizens are all but labeled terrorists.
0 is taking away our freedom of speech.
Go Mr. Pence, while you still can and thank you.
Pence is sounding more and more like a nominee for President in 2012. I heartily support that notion.
Pence maybe a republican, but he’s certainly not a (R)epublican.
He is one of the very few who get it.
Good on ya Mike!
Glenn and Rush speak to America to educate them. Now if they just listen. We speak for ourselves.
