CALIFORNIA´S GOVERNOR SIGNS LEGISLATION TO HELP TRACK AMMUNITION SALES (AB 962)
California Chronicle ^ | Oct 12, 2009 | California Chronicle

Sacramento, CA – Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law legislation that will help law enforcement officials track down and apprehend armed criminals and other prohibited persons. AB 962 by Assembly Member Kevin DeLeon (D-Los Angeles) had the support of law enforcement officials from across the state and was modeled after successful city ordinances, including the cities of Sacramento and Los Angeles. AB 962 was the Brady Campaign´s top priority bill in this year´s legislature.

The law requires maintenance of purchaser records by handgun ammunition vendors. Local law enforcement can use these records to find illegal guns.

"The purchase records will provide our police officers with yet another tool to track down and apprehend armed and dangerous criminals," said Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

The new law also requires the safe storage of handgun ammunition in stores and that all handgun ammunition sales be completed in face-to-face transactions. Sacramento and Los Angeles have had great success over the last few years with similar city ordinances. "Law enforcement officials in both cities have had great success in tracking down violent criminals who purchased ammunition in Sacramento and Los Angeles," said Ellen Boneparth, President of the California Brady Campaign Chapters. "Our California Brady Chapters were instrumental in urging cities to pass the local ordinances and getting strong support statewide for AB 962."

A 2006 study by the Rand Corporation on Los Angeles´ city ordinance showed 10,050 rounds of ammunition were purchased by prohibited persons in a period of just two months. The study concluded "…monitoring ammunition transactions may help reduce the supply of ammunition to criminals and the frequency of injuries from felonious gun assaults. Such a record can also provide information for generating leads on illegal firearm possession."

The ammo sellers in Nevada and Arizona are going to make some nice profits.

Dont forget OREGON ammo store profits should increase also. BTW... Too bad that northern California and southern Oregon were not combined into a state (ie Caligon or Orenia or Reaganland). It would be a pretty red state at that.

Thankfully, I'm just visiting my mom. When the business trip is over, I just drive home. The spot vacated by selling the DR650SE will be occupied by the Versys. There was a little method in the madness as well. The Versys weighs 454 lbs. My wife's BV500 weighs 438 lbs. The two bikes together are within the towing capacity of the Mariner Hybrid. We plan to do some traveling with the bikes in tow. The VStar weighs 612 lbs. That would have exceeded the tow limit and also made for problems parking in the garage when I return home. My Roadliner weighs around 750 lbs. It was just too much to haul down to San Diego from Idaho.

If you buy ammo that allows LEO to come to your house to check for guns?

I will be doing most of my shopping in Oregon. I will buy my ammo and components there as well as food and clothing.
Every dime of my money that I can with hold from the state coffers I will.
We have a business that is currently shut down until the market gets better. It will not restart in this state. I'll either sell it to an out of state buyer or move and restart in Oregon or Nevada.
Here is one big KMA to the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia. The only thing these socialist busturds understand is not giving them any money. Businesses are running away from this state as fast as they can. What are they going to do when there is no tax base left to pay taxes?????

You might want to leave soon, before they impose an exit tax. And yes, this has already been proposed.

CALIFORNIA´S GOVERNOR SIGNS LEGISLATION TO HELP TRACK AMMUNITION SALES (AB

The intent was never to track ammo sales, it was to restrict them.

Um, then why stay in California, if everything you’re doing is going to be out of state anyway?

Time to open a roadside gun/ammo store just over the border in Nevada or Arizona.

Like most people living in the Dem hell holes, we can’t afford to leave ie: Upside down mortgages.

I’d be gone already if I could afford to walk away from my house.

I'm not sure about shotgun ammo due to its plastic components. Anybody know?

Modern shotgun ammo should do about as well as the centerfire rifle and pistol stuff. I've seen the old paper-hulled stuff with fiber wads go bad due to moisture absorption, but plastic shotcups/wads and shells create as tight a seal against moisture as a crimped brass case.

It doesn’t go into effect until next year, so order all you can now.

As if handgun ammo wasn't hard enough to get already.
