Guess who I saw today!

Ann Coulter spoke today at the Roland Hayes Concert Hall, University of Tennessee - Chattanooga. I was there.

She arrived on stage to a standing ovation from the capacity crowd, a reaction which was repeated 2 more times during the event.

Her lecture lasted around an hour. She touched on a variety of subjects, but generally stuck to her theme, "Change in American Government".

In her sharp, witty way, she contrasted Democrats and Republicans, citing numerous examples of the differences on a variety of topics. On war, she illustrated how the Democrats tend to fight for show, not for victory by citing the efforts of the Johnson administration in Vietnam. She segued into Johnson's "war on poverty" by noting that we still did not have an exit strategy to escape the welfare state.

On health care, she noted that the Democrats proudly state that they have been trying to get government-controlled health care in the United States since 1943. "Apparently, they just don't get it", she said, noting that while the party has wanted national health care, the people overwhelming have been against it.

Her sense of humor and biting sarcasm are twice as good in person as they appear on televisionMany times during her lecture, she had to pause as the crowd laughed and applauded. Needless to say, she was well-recieved.

A rebuttal was provided by one of UTC's professors of English. Unfortunately, I do not remember her name. Her theme was not agressive, but she did note that people needed to "step away from talk radio" and get involved in politics. She said that students were "turned off" by politics and she blamed the retoric and harsh language of the political climate today.

Ann gave a brief "rebuttal to the rebuttal" and noted that political debate would be significantly more prevalent in colleges such as UTC if both sides of the argument were presented by the staff.

Capping off the event, Ann answered several questions and comments from the audience. A good time was had by all.

that people needed to "step away from talk radio"

Don't they wish? Its talk radio that is keeping this country from going totally RED overnight.

What? Nobody on the left lit themselves on fire in protest? The even wasn’t canceled? Nobody shouted her down so she had to leave?

Somebody dropped the ball. Heads will roll. Obama will be picking up the Red Phone to Soros later today.

Nice report. Glad to hear she made another great presentation. I’m also particularly glad to hear how well she was received, especially with that subject matter.

Well done, glad to see the rule observed!

I was surprised at the number of press photographers present. Not crowded like an NFL sideline, but there were 7 or 8 I counted up front. I recognized the one from the Chattanooga Times Free Press, but none of the others. I brought my camera (as you can see) and got a few dozen shots. I wanted a few shots, but I was generally more interested in what she had to say.

I expected some leftist thuggery, but there was none. Apparently, the left-minded in Chattanooga are much better behaved than those in, say, Seattle, Asheville, or LA. No nasty banners, no "code pink" chanters, none of that nonsense. It was a good crowd.

I really and truly enjoyed her monologue. It was great.

You did not provide the entire quote:

Her theme was not agressive, but she did note that people needed to "step away from talk radio" and get involved in politics.

The English professor is actually quite correct about that. Real change requires involvement. It is not enough to simply listen to Rush along with the rest of the choir.

Anne's point on her re-buttle to the re-buttle:

political debate would be significantly more prevalent in colleges such as UTC if both sides of the argument were presented by the staff.

Awesome come back. To hear a conservative view point in any University in the U.S. you have to ship in star speakers such as Anne...

That liberal professor's argument that the students should get more active in politics instead listening to talk radio, is blown away when the University doesn't even allow conservative professors to actually be a part of the teaching staff. Wow! What hypocrisy....Great job, Anne!

Keep in mind that I'm paraphrasing a lot of this from memory so the exact wording isn't quite the same.

The university professor that spoke about stepping away from talk radio was using talk radio as an example of the increasingly caustic nature of politics. She also noted one or two on the left that were contributing, but it was obvious that her opinion was that our political discourse was much more prominent on the right. I've heard worse leftist rants. She really didn't seem to want to debate Ann Coulter so much as she wanted to discourage people from listening to the likes of Ann (though she did not mention Ann).

Right, the liberal professor wanted to chastise the heavy influence of talk radio influencing minds of the American students but neglected to suggest that the staff’s of the Universities should peel back the 99% liberal teaching professors to a more fare and balance ratio 50 to 50%.

She is SO RIGHT.

We need a community-focused organization that will conduct grassroots voter registration drives and advise local residents on housing options, provide tax advice and generally make it easier to engage in the sex trade and human trafficking. I propose to call it ACORN.
