SEIU Shows Softer Side With Lawn Signs in Sacramento Area
By Jon Ortiz

California's biggest state employee union has tried the fist. Now it's extending the hand.
Service Employees International Union Local 1000 has planted nearly 15,000 lawn signs in the Sacramento region aimed at building public support for the 95,000 state workers it represents.
The campaign is a courteous counterpoint to the angry rallies, aggressive ad campaigns and strike threats the union has employed in the last few months as it unsuccessfully pushed Republican legislators and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to ratify the local's stalled labor contract.
"The public sees state workers as one, big, faceless mass," said Local 1000 President Yvonne Walker. "The signs are a way to educate people, to tell them, 'We're your neighbors. Our kids go to the same schools. We shop the same stores. We have the same concerns.'"
Union organizers say the campaign has steadily picked up momentum since launching at the end of August.
As of Labor Day, union supporters had put up 18,724 of the purple-yellow-and-white signs around the state, with 14,588 of those delivered in the greater Sacramento area, according to Walker's assistant John Simmons. The union is still delivering signs to homes and workplaces each day.
Local 1000 officials wouldn't disclose how much the union has paid for the manufacturing and delivery of the corrugated plastic signs that read "State Employee and Proud of It!" in bold white type.

California is broke largely because of these people! I wonder how long it will take for the people of California to wake up?
"We want your shit"
"Our teachers and union brothers are teaching our children that they deserve your shit"
"We are concerned that you just have too damn much shit"
I’ve been a state worker. They might as well put signs on their lawns that say they have leprosy or the plague because most people are not impressed by the quality of work done by government employees (see DMV complaints as a prime example).
Need a new lawn sign campaign,
“Fire all state employees”!!!
find later
LOL! The Obama depression nationwide shows how these people have such an entitlement mentality.
The stupid liberal newspapers talk about how tragic state or city workers, cops, firemen, teachers and other do not deserve to be laid off and how tragic it is. Who ever said these vermin have jobs for life? They expect that they deserve special status.
See my tag...
I had to go get my DL renewed last April. It'd been years since I'd been at a DMV orifice, so this was my first time using their appointment system.
The place was crawling with people, but I was dumbfounded to find myself finished up within 10 minutes....first window calls you to collect your check, then she sends you to a second window for your pic and you're on your way.
So union thugs can put up almost 18,000 signs on lawns and no one bats an eye. But let one Texas man put up some 0bama/Joker stickers and he gets hassled and cited by the police? Something is wrong with this picture.
I don’t believe all of these signs are on the employee’s own lawns.
renewals are pretty easy.
I was renewing an ID card but the first few times the place was packed. I went early in the morning and the place was empty.
they are getting there with all the new proposed taxes, I don’t think people are going to stay quiet for long. (I hope)
Right on the head.
Obama called out the thugs to confront and get in the faces of tea party protests. SEIU responded on their corrupt thug instincts. SEIU lost in the court of public opinion. Time to reimage.
These signs are a J-O-K-E. Like, California is swirling the drain, and yet these drones are literally advertising that they’re “Proud to be a State Worker: keeping California safe, healthy and strong!” I see these signs every morning and wondered how many were printed, since I PAID FOR THEM.
Just when you think your jaw can’t drop any further, you see a sign like this.
I do. Sacramento is crawling with parasites. CSAC and a million and eight non-profits, in addition to the state departments. Not to mention lobbiests & PR firms & law firms...
Which naturally also translate into the need for TONS of restaurants and bakeries and cafe’s that cater, as well as conference centers, IT firms, meeting planners, etc.
So very true!
15,000 signs..an example of urban blight
