Aides to President Barack Obama are putting the final touches on a new strategy to help Democrats recover from a brutal August recess by specifying what Obama wants to see in a compromise health care deal and directly confronting other trouble spots, West Wing officials tell POLITICO.
Obama is considering detailing his health-care demands in a major speech as soon as next week, when Congress returns from the August recess. And although House leaders have said their members will demand the inclusion of a public insurance option, Obama has no plans to insist on it himself, the officials said.
“We’re entering a new season,” senior adviser David Axelrod said in a telephone interview. “It’s time to synthesize and harmonize these strands and get this done. We’re confident that we can do that. But obviously it is a different phase. We’re going to approach it in a different way. The president is going to be very active.”

I thought the whole point of this liberal exercise was a public option... WTF are we about to get now?
And this my friends explains the sudden flip flop by the Obama administration in allowing Holder's Justice Dept. to now going ahead with investigating the CIA on interrogations. If Obama truly will not insist on a public option for healthcare reform, then he needs to throw a big bone to the left to mollify them. The CIA is apparently going to be that sacrificial lamb. The left is going to be apoplectic when they hear this so Obama needs to calm them by giving them the CIA's head on a platter. This guy is the most incompetent president in the history of the Republic--and yes I lived through Jimmy Carter.
Well don’t count your chickens until they are hatched but with Kennedy, God save his soul, out of the Senate the dems don’t have the votes to push cloture until either an election is held or MA changes their law, either kills September.
So *IF* the GOP can march in step the dems have two choices
(1) Compromise dow to a level that the GOP can no longer hold ranks: This would mean no public option, and a vastly scaled down bill.
(2) Go Nuclear: This might get their healthcare passed but would end their control of the senate withing two election cycles.
So long as the GOP prevents anything structural, allow regulations of the insurance industry which can be undone in 4-6 years. It should be considered a victory.
Anyone who watched Glenn Beck this evening won’t believe this. Too many radicals surround this Pres. Who knows what’s really going on.
They’ll probably just remove the “option” part and make it mandatory...
