Couple pleads guilty in toxic pet food case By HEATHER HOLLINGSWORTH
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) A Las Vegas-based company and its owners have pleaded guilty to distributing a tainted ingredient used to make pet food that killed potentially thousands of dogs and cats.
Sally Qing Miller, 43, and her husband, Stephen S. Miller, 56, along with their company, Chemnutra Inc., pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of selling adulterated food and one count of selling misbranded food, both misdemeanors.
They initially were charged with 13 counts of introduction of adulterated food into interstate commerce, 13 counts of introduction of misbranded food

We're talking 80 tons of melamine. The port of entry is Kansas City. Was it all flown in from the PRC?

Fine them for every penny they have and then toss them under the jail.
If anyone needs to be made examples of it’s these a*******.

They should be made to include a cup of melamine mixed into every cup of food they eat until it does the same thing to them that it did to those pets...

Also, Menu Foods, who unwittingly used ChemNutra’s product in their pet food, had to shell out $45 million in claims, while the perps get only a misdemeanor? Wife is a Chinese national. This issue came up because my cat died today of possible renal failure.

This is another example where the left has stories about the abuse and killings of animals, but, at the same time, they completely ignore the ongoing abortions that happen everyday all over the world, while also attacking everybody who is pro-life.

I want to add my sincere condolences for the loss of your sweet kitty.

Will they be personally and/or corporately liable for the pain and suffering their actions caused so many pet owners? I’d like to see them reduced to absolute poverty before hangiing them.
And Judges, my condolences on the loss of your kitty.

I agree that the lives of the unborn are much more precious than that of pets. However, where is PETA in all this?! Where is the Humane Society? Where is the SPCA? What if people ate tainted dog food?

Where does it say 80 tons of Melamine? The article mentions 800 tons of wheat gluten.
To: TrueKnightGalahad
I find it abhorrent that you want to murder two human beings even if somehow they are slightly responsible for the death of a few pets.
Maybe they got off with a “slap on the wrist” because the case against them was very weak (i.e. the prosecution would have lost in court) and this is the best deal the prosecutor was able to make in order to claim victory.

even if somehow they are slightly responsible for the death of a few pets. Slightly responsible? They either are, or they aren't responsible.

Thank you so much. That was touching. “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17 My cat was a gift from heaven for a while and God is not through with his blessings. If he came from heaven as we were born from above, then we all will see our loved ones with two and four legs again. Amen!

The case against them was not “weak”, it was open and shut. Their actions were responsible for the horrible deaths of many thousands of cats and dogs, not just a few. Those of us who followed it carefully and fearfully knew the devastation among pet owners. But I guess the court figured all of our losses were “only” pets.
There was no justice.

Give them a Melamine IV drip, suppository, eye salve, nasal spray, dietary supplement, etc until they expire.

I’m so sorry for your loss of your kitty, and I, too, believe we will see them again. I know because “God will wipe away all tears from our eyes” and that’s the only way mine will be gone. I’ve lost two to chronic renal failure, and fighting it now for my last little girl, who’s 17 years old. We send you purrs.

No jail time because there was no case against the couple. They settled in order to make the case go away and get on with their lives.
This whole tragedy is about the dangers of doing business with the Chinese not about evil people.

For All The Cat~People
Hugs

Mother won't admit it, but she is an over protective sort
Always busy keeping an eye on me when she is not holding Court
With the other neighbors' Cats and Dogs and Puppies
And an occasional side trip to the Clear Water Boxes to look in on their Guppies
Which leaves ample time for me to explore and look for things to do
Since I am full of curiosity and really don't possess a clue
As to why everything I see is so very large and I'm so very small?
And the only place where nothing happens seems to be the hall
That connect a lot of gigantic boxes that each hold hidden treasure
Hiding behind large and shadowy things while keeping me from the pleasure
Of grasping things in my paws and enjoying their textures and scents
Learning all I can with a healthy dash of energetic discernment
Until something else glimmers or sparkles and catches my attention
To scamper off and capture it without a moment's apprehension
Filling my head with all kinds of things as secrets are brought to light
Leaving plenty of stories to tell Mother as she slowly hugs me tight!

If it was open and shut why did the prosecution plea bargain it down to next to nothing?
A big element in a criminal case is intent. These people had no intent to harm.
The Chinese they were dealing with had every intent to defraud.
This case is a strong example of the dangers of doing business with the Chinese.
