Palin's Dereliction of Duty
The American Spectator ^ | July 3, 2009 | Quin Hillyer

Posted on 07/03/2009 2:15:42 PM PDT by EveningStar

Knowing that many, many conservatives will absolutely dump on me for saying this, I can't help myself: Sarah Palin's resignation is an appalling dereliction of duty and a highly cynical move to set herself up for a presidental run for which she is manifestly unqualified.

" She’s protecting her family from an endless barrage of abuse."

BIG problem there:

She's going to have to find a means to earn and repay a half a million dollars;
Cannot allow it to go unpaid if she is to be allowed any credibility in the future.

How do pols and former pols do that?
Speaking fees.
Speaking in front of audiences that can be stacked and for a media that will remain heavily biased.

She's not going to get away from the abuse, it will follow her regardless.
She may be protecting Alaska but, unless she finds a cave and $500,000 somewhere, she and her family will remain in the cross hairs.

And she isn't running in 1212 either.

Don’t read the crap.

I won't...... I was really saddened to hear her speech because in my heart I knew she was finally a state governor and politician to be admired. Not coming from money, not having money and not financed by tons of lobbyists. Altho not from Alaska, I felt she represented me.

I suspect the non stop assault on her and especially her family finally took its toll. The bastards were even attacking them up until today.......

15 legal charges against her, and each and every one debunked, at a cost to her and her family of over a half million dollars.....It doesn't matter who may help them in paying it but the fact remains that the intent was to destroy that family, both politically and financially.

On another forum I have been accused of harboring hate for simply calling the now democrat party socialists and marxists, which are true facts. But after today, I can honestly say that I do harbor hatred for that party and what it has done to polarize our nation and their attempt to destroy the Palin family.........

This is all about freeing Sara up for fundraising in the Lower 48 and driving turnout to help the GOP take back the House next year.

You raise an interesting point.

Didn't Gov. Palin recently meet (without much fanfare) with some Republican monied players at one of their houses for an "introduction and discussion"?

Perhaps there was a meeting of the minds to have Palin take the lead in decimating Democrats from Congress (the fastest way to halt the Obama marxist juggernaut) by using her popularity.

Then supporting her in a run for the presidency in 2012.

I think there was something in her speech about "this being in the works for awhile".

What did she say?? I’ve been on the road with NO NEWS! I am shocked that she resigned but no one on FOX has said WHY.

I'm not buying it. Legal defense funds help with legal expenses and judging by the comments here and elsewhere, people are ready to donate. YOU FINISH THE JOB!

Democrats and their operatives will continue to go after Conservatives because guess what? IT WORKS.

Government in Alaska has become pathologically dysfunctional due to Democrat schemes designed to distract Palin from her duties.

And yah think it's gonna be easier if she were POTUS?

Well I've read the first 50 posts thus far and there are two sides to this, but I would caution everyone to consider the literal HELL she was thrown into, the jackals that invaded her town in Alaska, the betrayal of McCainites within the campaign, and the on-going rancor from her own party.

What if she stepped down, resigned, to do something far more important? She owes neither party squat but disgust! She views her role of governorship of Alaska as “lame duck.” All that she accomplished to lead to the last few years as a lame duck. Maybe her goals are bigger than the quacks in Alaska and her staying in position is worth less to her, them, and all America than whatever her new goals are. What if she has decided to create a third party? With the treatment the Republicans are giving her...why bother with them, the party literally left her hang out to dry?

Scenario two. Things don't involve politics anymore. She has her son to deal with. Maybe she herself is ill and is simply not disclosing it.

You see she didn't give us much to go on and I for one am pretty sure she wouldn't come to such a drastic conclusion if there were trivial reasons. Instead of all this dumping on the lady we should be praying for her.

One thing came across loud and clear from her announcement, she is afraid and disgusted with what’s happening to our country under Obama and she will do everything she can to help stop it and get back to our Founder’s ideals.

She and Sanford had a mutual suicide pact.

We are playing a new game, the Liberals/Obama started it. The Dems are already gearing up for 2010/2012 with their trash talking of Sarah. The rules have changed, we cannot “play nice.” Sarah didn’t quit, she just went from regular player to point guard.

...the relentless psycho-mysoginist cabal that formed against her...

Is that ever true. Having experienced it myself in business and organizations, where men would rather take out a woman whose work puts them to shame even at the cost of lost profits or missed opportunities. That is the real elephant in the room.

That is not ethical, sorry.

She obviously has faith in her Lt. Gov., so where is the ethics violation?

Sarah mentioned something posted on her refrigerator: “’Don’t explain; your friends don’t need it, and your enemies won’t believe you anyway.’” I guess I’m one of her “friends” because I don’t need an explanation.

If you truly listened and understood what she said in her resignation speech, you would know it is NOT a “dereliction of duty”. She could have stayed on as a lame duck and would have been stalked and hounded about anything and everything she did during that time. The political opposition (including some in her own party) basically wanted her DEAD.

She put the needs of the people of Alaska before her political ambition! With all of the frivolous lawsuits taking so much state time and money she wasn't able to properly do the job that they "hired" her to do so she stepped aside for the good of her state. That's honorable and ethical. You're an idiot if you can't see that.
