Now the lady doth protest too much ( Speaking of Nancy Pelosi and her news conference )
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | Sunday, May 17, 2009 | Debra J. Saunders

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi argued at a news conference Thursday that Republicans are focusing on how much she knew about CIA enhanced interrogation techniques in 2002 and 2003 as a "diversionary tactic to take the spotlight off those who conceived, developed and implemented these policies, which all of us long opposed."

Yet Pelosi's failure to protest what she alternately calls "enhanced interrogation methods" and "torture" - depending on whether the controversy threatens to make her look bad or the Bush administration - goes to the very heart of whether or not the "truth commission" she supports is anything more than an exercise in cynical partisan finger-pointing.

If Pelosi believes that the use of these techniques - including waterboarding - was so patently objectionable, why did she not use her political capital to end the practices as soon as she learned of them?

Pelosi rejects a time line released by the CIA that states that, as ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, she received a Sept. 4, 2002, "briefing on EITs" and their use with al Qaeda biggie Abu Zubaydah, who was waterboarded.

***********************************snip*****************************

While Pelosi did nothing to try to stop waterboarding, she explained, Harman was "the appropriate person to register a protest" - as Harman did in a letter to CIA counsel Scott Muller.

Protest? In the letter, which reads like the weakest of weak editorials, ......

As much of a self-serving douche that Pelosi is, I have to agree that it’s a distraction from the issue.

Whoa... This is in the San Fransicko Chronicle. Nanzipants is definitely in trouble now.

We all know that the MSM is a commie collectivist hive. No way would this be published in her home town leftist rag if the word hadn’t come down from on high that she’s on the sh!t list.

Methinks she’s a goner.

A distraction from the issue??

Although I believe that I see the point, she has been one of the primary drivers who has made this an issue, and she personally has been screaming about these interrogations being “torture.”

And its all been done for hypocritical, self serving, gross political interest and to further enhance her own future and that of the liberal agenda.

To me, that makes it an integral part of the very issue itself.

And it makes her, in plain words, a liar who has been caught.
There is an old, somewhat obscure, saying:

it is a poor weapon that cannot point both ways

Thank you for your post - bill

"I have to assume that Pelosi did not see these acts as criminal -- that waterboarding did not become "torture" until it was politically expedient for the Democratic leadership to label it so."

I'll vote for that. But alas! Such sleaze bags with the attributes of snakes are often difficult to hit with a hammer.
