We should end the Cuban embargo (vanity)

Posted on 04/17/2009 4:36:30 PM PDT by EveningStar

I have long felt that the embargo against Cuba should end. I think the arguments against ending the embargo have become slogans over the years.

The only reason we still have the embargo is that Cuban-Americans in Florida want it. And they vote. And politicians from both parties want that vote.

We don't have embargoes against Russia or China. But then Russian-Americans and Chinese-Americans don't have similar sway with the politicians the way Cuban-Americans do.

I think we should allow our business people access to Cuba.

LOL.... nice, Support for Communist regimes is now acceptable. Why stop with just lifting the embargo...

heck lets take the Obama approach, if you can’t beat em join em...

Castro’s legacy (Success because of an idiot American President that wanted to be loved by the world.

Obama really truly is the ANTI-REAGAN... Reagan understood the DANGER of Communism... Obama embraces it. The only thing missing is the Obama to the Russians exchange that ends with Let us help you build up that wall.

The only thing missing is his Mr. Medvedev

The big problem with ending the Cuban embargo now is that we would infect the poor Cubans with a heavy dose of socialist thinking. Better that they be isolated from this new American strain.

I have no problem with it- as long as Cuba returns all seized property and monies (with interest) to their rightful owners.

Until then they can piss up a rope.

We traded with the old Soviet Union. We trade with China.

To be fair, we have a pretty strong relationship with communist China (and have since the 1970’s), and we’re not exactly shy about our relationships with dictatorships of just about every flavor.

That, and I want cheap beaches and good cigars =)

What is in it for the US? Cuba can trade with everyone else and they still remain Communist and poor. Let them rot in Hell. Why should we do anything to keep the current regime in power?

So, is Cuban communism too small to fail?

And how dare you qualify the interests of Cuban-Americans with “only.” If “only” they’d shut up? If “only” their interests went unrepresented?

Why should our government deny our business people the opportunity to exploit a market and export capitalism?

Honestly? LOL!! You just said this here for reactions’ sake, right? Sure, when Castro frees all dissenters and gives them his millions that used to be their millions in restitution, returns all stolen property and stolen lives. Oh, wait, that’s impossible. OK, when he is put in prison along with his socialist cronies, then we lift the embargo.

“We trade with China.”

And as a result of that communist China is stronger. We've enabled their communism.

I think the embargo has worked. They're still driving cars from the 1950’s and haven't advanced one iota. Infusing their commie regime with US money is just nuts, IMO.
