AMERICA IS A CHRISTIAN NATION

The president was wrong.

In Indonesia, in front of a Muslim audience, he stood up and said that the United States is not a Christian nation.

He is wrong.

No, Christianity is not the religion of the government, but it is the religion of the people. It is an innate and formative trait that permeates every ounce of American history, heritage, culture and character.

It is the defining nature of the United States and without Christianity there would be no America and certainly no American freedom. Politicians and professors may claim otherwise, but they are wrong.

Ironically, American society is so twisted by the dishonesty of political correctness that few will acknowledge the nation’s congenital Christianity. Most will deny it, many will mock it.

Mindless parroting of the phrase “separation of church and state” leaves people of small mind and limited understanding confident of the nation’s pantheism. The prohibition of establishing a state religion is so misunderstood and mistaught that what was intended initially as a limitation of state authority has become a limitation of personal faith.

And so it is that a nation created by worshippers of the Christian God hears its present and past denied by a president on foreign soil.

So let’s set the record straight.

More than three-quarters of Americans self-identify as believers in Jesus Christ.

Specifically, 76 percent.

What’s the second-most-common religion? Judaism at 1.7 percent.

Third place? Islam at 0.6 percent.

To see equivalence of impact or social relevance in those numbers is preposterous.

Does that means Jews or Muslims are second-class citizens? Absolutely not. Should one religion or another be limited in its practice? Absolutely not. In America we live and let live, and those numbers don’t trump that.

But they do make one point crystal clear.

America is a Christian nation.

Answer this question: What is the world’s largest Muslim nation?

The answer is: Indonesia.

And yet in 1990 the percentage of Muslims in Indonesia was statistically the same as the percentage of Christians in America. So if we are allowed to conclude that Indonesia is a Muslim nation, why are we not allowed to conclude that America is a Christian nation?

Because of the double standard of political correctness.

America is a Christian nation.

And every significant aspect of its national culture is colored by Christianity.

And every accomplishment of its history is tied to Christian faith, heritage or ethic. From the legal system to the workweek to the priorities of its people.

American culture has been Christian culture. At least it has been traditionally. And where it has strayed in recent years, it has been a social de-evolution, a decay of morality, principle and virtue that has led to weaker people and a less-successful society.

Sociologically, the virtues of Christian culture have blessed the people and nations who have followed them. Spiritually, the virtues of Christian culture have led to God’s blessings upon those who have lived them.

And we need those blessings today. In fact, our nation’s problems – from lawlessness to financial weakness – are the consequence of not living our Christian heritage or our Christian faith. Conversely, the solution to our problems – all of them – is to return to our values and our faith.

We are a Christian nation.

And while the president is free to pick his own religion, he doesn’t get to pick the nation’s.

We do that ourselves.

And the vast majority of us – all across the sweep of American history – are Christian. And while the nation we have built embraces all people and all faiths, it is fundamentally a reflection of Christianity.

America was a Christian nation before atheists, marginal Christans/Roman Catholics started whining.

We might need to remind Hallmark cards that we are a Christian nation, also. I went to buy Easter cards this morning. In Hallmark’s big display, I found that they had only 5 (five) religious Easter cards. I would post the addy for their email, but it’s so long, it whacks the post out. So, their website is: http://www.hallmark.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/home|10001|10051|-1

At the bottom of the page is the “contact us” tab. Perhaps a few of you could use it?

As a Christian, and an Ordained Elder in my church, you are wrong. We are NOT a Christian nation.

If we are a Christian nation, they we have excluded the Jews, Hindus, non-beleivers, and others.

It is way past time that we stop tying ourselves to the politics of classification and labeling, and into the recognition of achievement, excellence and ability, regardless of religion, race, sex, age and anything other than achievement, excellence, ability.... and loyalty to our country and its people.

Classification and labeling have one ultimate purpose, to create class/group envy and warfare, and make the foolish voters think they need someone like Obama to protect their oh-so-opressed group or class.

If someone is a loyal, patriotic American, I don't care who they pray to... or don't pray to.

America was Founded, and has existed for centuries, as a Christian Nation.

The America we see today (Post 9/11, rampant abortion, failing economy, Government out of control, The American Family in disarray and decline) is the America which has turned its back on that truth, and on God.

People consider 9/11 and demand, "Where was God on 9/11?!"

He was right where they left Him, the vapid imbeciles.

I’m not sure America is a Christian nation, anymore.

Not, until Christians take it back.

We need to take a break from living our lives and mobilize ourselves.

The percentage of Caucasians in the US is larger than the percentage of Christians. Does that make us a White nation?

P.S., please do not tell the descendants of Haym Salomon, the financier of the American Revolution (”No Bucks - No Bullets”) or Isaac Franks, aide-de-camp to General George Washington that we are a “Chrisian nation.”

What is sure is that we do not have a Christian President. Both BO’s parents were atheists, and BO’s only connection to Christianity came when he joined the Rev. Wright’s church well into his adulthood. Since abandoning the Wright connection as an embarrassment, BO has been unable to find a Christian church that suits him.

What he really believes, we cannot be sure, but I have my suspicions.

1891 - The U.S. Supreme Court restates that America is a “Christian Nation.”

“Our laws and our institutions must necessarily be based upon and embody the teachings of the Redeemer of mankind. It is impossible that it should be otherwise; and in this sense and to this extent our civilization and our institutions are emphatically Christian ... this is a religious people. This is historically true. From the discovery of this continent to the present hour, there is a single voice making this affirmation ... we find everywhere a clear definition of the same truth ... this is a Christian nation.” (Church of the Holy Trinity vs. United States, 143 US 457, 36 L ed 226, Justice Brewer)

You're comparing apples and pyramids. White is a color, and there is no "white" body of morals, ethics, values, or religious views--that is, unless you're one of those far-left "whiteness studies" enthusiasts. However, Christian morals, ethics, and values underpin our political system and permeate our culture. Even our National Anthem--which includes a reference to Job 7:1-2--reflects Judeo-Christian values. Therefore, a good argument can be made that the USA is, indeed, a Christian nation.

Mindbender: “As a Christian, and an Ordained Elder in my church, you are wrong. We are NOT a Christian nation.
If we are a Christian nation, they we have excluded the Jews, Hindus, non-beleivers, and others.”

Nevadan: Mindbender, you missed what the writer was saying. The United States is not a Christian theocracy (which is what you are saying and I would agree with), but the United States is Christian in the sense that it’s laws, culture, and religious heritage are based on a Judeo-Christian world view (i.e. the state is subservient to God and the laws of God, the rights of the individual come from God - not the state).

It would probably be more accurate to say that we are a Judeo-Christian nation, but regardless, the moral, religious, legal, and cultural values we’ve held as a nation are based on a Judeo-Christian world view. The problem today is that our courts and higher education has been teaching (for a very long time) that our laws and rights are not derived from God, but just the opposite - from the state. There are no moral absolutes and therefore what is “legal” does not necessarily have to be “moral” because morality is defined by whatever the courts and lawyers say it is and can get away with.

The nation was FOUNDED on Christian principals,
but it is FAR from a “Christian Nation” today.

Just a great, dysfunctional, utterly corrupt and wicked mass of humanity.

A lot of people, especially those that want to reject Christian morality and God’s laws

tend to conflate the idea of upholding, teaching, and supporting those morals through society and government,

with a “theocracy”.
