What Is It with Democrats and Taxes? (Now their Nominee in NY's Special Congressional Election)

Geithner, Daschle, Franken, and Now their Nominee in NY's Special Congressional Election

I wrote yesterday about Scott Murphy — the Democrat candidate for Kirsten Gillibrand’s old House seat. I pointed out that he was trying to send part of his resume down the memory hole — suddenly erasing from his biography his role in starting an Indian rival to Ebay. I pointed out that he’d also had problems paying his taxes in the past. But now I see that his firm — Small World Software — still has outstanding liens against it with the New York State Department of Taxation.

Apparently Murphy isn’t even meeting up to the standard set by Tim Geithner and Tom Daschle: at least they had the sense to pay their back taxes before they stepped into the national spotlight. Hopefully he will do so now that he’s running for Congress.

Democrats are acting as if this race is unwinnable. They’re telling everyone who’ll listen that their candidate has nearly no chance, despite the fact that they’ve won the seat handily the last two cycles, that it has a very slight Republican tilt, and that they currently hold at least 28 other House seats that have as large a ‘Republican tilt’ or larger. If they have no chance in this seat, it means they’re writing off 29 seats of their 40 seat majority.

The only thing that could make this seat unwinnable is a bad candidate. Let’s weigh his assets and debits.

On the plus side:

He’s rich

On the down side:

1. He hasn’t paid his taxes
He’s erasing parts of his resume — for reasons that aren’t clear
Not only is he a carpetbagger, he held a high ranking office in Missouri just 8 or 9 years ago — meaning he’s also being disingenuous when he claims in his bio to have been working in New York ’since the early 1990s’

I think this race is likely to be closer than Democrats would have you believe, but at the same time I wonder if local Democrats weighed all this when they nominated Murphy.

Thanks for starting this thread!

I wonder what would happen to us if we didn’t pay OUR taxes. Never mind, I know.

The Dims need to win this, or it shows a chink in Obie's armor and a possible changing of the tide. This is a pretty conservative district. I live in an adjacent district, and drive through it everyday, you mostly see Tedisco signs on lawns, not a lot of Murphy ones. The Dems need to turnout the vast majority of their base in this district if they want to win. The involvement of the National Dims, is an attempt to get the local Dims out. If they turnout the Dims have a chance, if they don't they'll lose this seat. There's a mailing they just sent out linking Tedisco to Rush; smacks of desperation to me. Tedisco wins by 5.

This is supposed to be bad?
LOL!!

As a conservative, I look at any connection to Rush as a ringing endorsement!

Please give to Tedisco’s campaign at
http://www.jimtedisco.com/

I gave $25, and I don’t even live in NY. Besides that, we’ve got 9 children at home and have fallen on some hard times.

It is time to put your money where your heart is.

We very much need to beat the 0bamunists on this one. It is the opening shot of the 2010 elections.

Tedisco is a SOLID conservative.

Check out his endorsements.

“As a conservative, I look at any connection to Rush as a ringing endorsement!”

Of course, but as the previous post had it, its an act of desperation and it shows how little the Dems have to put forward as a positive agenda. What, they wont run on “More Deficit Spending than ever before” or “Let’s socialize medicine” or “I want to raise your electric bill”. They cant kick GWB around anymore and are reduced to making a popular talk show host a boogeyman. It’s all about rallying the base of O-bots to turn out.

If people are dumb enough to think a talk show host can stop them from voting, that would explain why we have the dumbest Congress ever.

I sincerely hope the Rush attacks backfire big-time. So far we have that Murphy is:
1. Rich
2. A tax defaulter/cheater
3. Cant run on his own merits so has to attack Rush to gain attention

God help America if the O-bots win this one.

Bush narrowly won the district in 2000 and 2004. The Messiah carried the district in 2008. There are conflicting polls. An RNC poll shows Tedisco leading by 3. An NRCC actually has Tedisco losing by 2. Tedisco own internal polling has him leading by 1. A Dem poll has Tedisco leading by 2. Turnout is the name of the game. Heavy turnout favors the Dem. Light turnout favors Tedisco. This race is so vital. If we lose, expect the GOP to act like the Messiah’s slaves.
