Burt Prelutsky: Finding a Home for Sex Offenders
Townhall.com ^ | February 2, 2009 | Burt Prelutsky

Posted on 02/02/2009 12:54:17 AM PST by EveningStar

This morning, my hometown newspaper, the L.A. Times, carried the headline “Fixes in Jessica’s Law Are Urged.” The sub-head read: “Tight residency curbs on sex offenders can leave them homeless and propel them to re-offend, a panel says.”

For those of you fortunate enough to live someplace where the Times isn’t your local daily, let me assure you that a similar news story runs nearly as regularly as Doonesbury and Dennis the Menace.

I have a suggestion. Put the rapists and pedophiles in the graveyard, under 6 feet of dirt. I know that sounds harsh, but I am really tired of these animals being released and harming another child or innocent victim.

I would agree with you if it were not for false accusations.

You make a valid point. Do you think false accusations are a big problem? I know it happens, but I truthfully have no clue on the size and scope.

20% of those accused are exonerated by the DNA, FBI lab statistic.

For the truly guilty, and crooked self serving politicians, I can only think of one acceptable place

here is a hint it isn't a volcano.

Beyond a shadow of doubt...they should be executed.

A cemetery address for these perverts was what I was thinking as well.

I agree that these people should be left in prison or executed; but let’s face it — that ain’t gonna happen in Clintonbushobamaland. Oprah, the media, and the ACLU would have a fit! However, it seems to me that this presents a business opportunity for some smart entrepreneur.

All around the country, there are empty warehouses in industrial parks, nowhere near parks and schools. Why not retrofit these as housing? The ex-cons could get housing, they’d all be in one place and could be bussed to work (at a nominal fee, of course) and easily monitored.

There are two reasons this is problematic:

  1. False convictions. It happens, and it's not rare.
  2. The scope of what counts as a "sex offense" has crept to include things like people who go drunk and took a pee in the shrubbery. Not sex offenders (the way the law was originally intended to work) at all.

This has been something that’s bothered me for a long time. I support sterilization or even harsher punishments for pedophiles (the death penalty for serial child rapists; thank you, “Justice” Kennedy for eliminating that option for us), but if we’re not going to do that, and instead decide to have these strict residency rules and other laws that restrict the creeps, then I think it’s in the public interest to make darn sure it doesn’t lead to a situation where they’re homeless and have nothing to live for. That kind of person, I think, is going to be even more likely to offend again because, what the heck, their life has no other purpose anymore and jail would be a better situation than what they have now, so why not do it?

That ain’t a bad idea. If you are rapist or a pedophile, you should never see the light of day again. As it is now, to many of them do. It’s not about rehabilitation or even about punishment, it’s about protecting the vulnerable of our society. The Left seems so concerned with our children’s education, health, etc..., but they seem more than willing to “rehabilitate” and release criminals. The net result is monsters are released into society to do more damage. I don’t know how an innocent child or woman would ever get over being violated. I do know we, as a civilized society, have an obligation to prevent as much of it as we possibly can. To me, that means not having these people loose in society.

"Do you think false accusations are a big problem?"

They are if you take someone's life permanently away for it. For some reason I am reminded of the Salem's witch trials. The main reason people were accused of being a witch was that some evil idiot could grab their land. This is the root of the problem. If the wrong people find you are in the way of something they want, they can immorally have you removed.

As far as a percentage of the overall cases, I suspect the amount of innocent rather small.

Why not reopen Manzanar and pass a law requiring sex offenders to live there? The Supreme Court ruled that the internment of Japanese-Americans was constitutional ( Korematsu ), so this proposal should pass constitutional muster.

In the age of video, one could obtain photographic or video evidence of pedophilia.

How about we send them to live at 1600 PA Ave in Washington, and with the lib lawmakers/judges/lawyers that advocate for their re-integration with society??

And the age of video is coming when it will be unreliable as it can and will be completely computer generated and indistinguishable from the real thing.
