What a difference a leader makes

I got a coffee from Starbucks at lunch and noticed that they changed their heat shield wrap to a patriotic Red/Blue.

Within the margin was a quote. At first I thought "Oh, no, not more Obama! Can't I even enjoy a cup of coffee in peace. As I looked closer the words struck me...

"My fellow citizens, our nation is poised for greatness. We must do what we know is right and do it with all our might. Let history say of us, 'These were golden years -- when the American Revolution was reborn, when freedom gained new life, when America reached for her best."

The quote is from President Ronald Reagan in his Inaugural Address of 1985.

Quite a contrast from the downer and pessimism of the Obama speech yesterday. Oh how far our American leadership has fallen.

Pessimism makes you depressed and dependent. It makes a good Democrat mindset.

Hope springs eternal, and when this fool’s promises shatter against hard reality, America will seek another Reagan.

This ‘fool’ will destroy this country; there will be no need for another Reagan.

Within a very few days of 9/11/2001 I heard liberal callers to the several talk radio programs I listen to say that they refuse to show the Flag because it is "too Republican."

Emotional illness.. liberals got emotional illness.

It cannot be a mental (of or related to the mind) illness.

That explains it! Rev. Lowery was just trying to quote President Reagan.

Lowery’s “prayer” was so off the wall, I found it impossible to be offended by it. It was like watching a bit from a rerun of “Flip Wilson” or “Laugh In.”

I am sure there are many individuals like Reagan (and Goldwater). The problem is that many of the solid conservatives I know that have those qualities have no interest in running for political office.

Hopefully a new Reagan may appear in 2010 and help elect and reelect Republicans across the board. Palin, I think, will be one (a new Reagan).

I do not go to Starbucks! I haven’t been one in years. I roast my own beans and brew my own coffee. I find no reason to pay my hard earned money for their “dirty water”.

Straybuck’s Reaganized your cup? Now THAT is a real sign! :)

I wish you were not but you are so right about post-Reagan America. The spectacle we witnessed yesterday was at best a far and sad cry from the dignity, poise, taste and class of President and Mrs. Reagan.

President Reagan did not lead us, he represented us. He was a reflection of our values as a Nation and of us as a People. A mirror. A shining mirror.

He did not stand before us, he stood among us, a humble giant among men.

God rest and keep him.

I'm not so sure about that. The country was offered another Reagan, in fact he came to Washington with President Reagan, and is a staunch conservative on all levels. The media, the RNC, and most Americans for that matter, ignored him. Even here, we were told “he hasn't got a chance, move on”.

I think that fine man and TRUE CONSERVATIVE should run for governor of CA, and snatch the White House after that. Especially since he could work wonders for CA. Most will know who I am talking about, no need to state it. For those who don't, read the tagline.

Didn’t Brokaw say that he wouldn’t wear a flag lapel pin because it was the symbol of the Bush administration?

One problem we have is that when we raise our young to eschew government, it should be no surprise that they don’t want to work in government. That leaves the enemy a clear field of fire.

If only we could have another Reagan.....

Well, personally I honestly thought that Duncan Hunter, who ran for the Republican nomination, was as close to another Reagan as one could ask for. I must be delusional, because apparently nobody else saw this.

Or maybe it was just that so many were mesmerized by Fred Thompson because he had played the President on television(?)

I don't think we elect good men any more - we prefer to mock them.

“Didn’t Brokaw say that he wouldn’t wear a flag lapel pin because it was the symbol of the Bush administration?”

YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING! You are kidding, right?

Mr. “Greatest Generation?” Just who did he think he was writing about and what they persevering for, fighting in defense of, and then returning to if not THAT FLAG AND WHAT IT STOOD FOR?

Wait. Maybe he only respects the 48-Stars one? (shrug) (/s)

I think McDonald’s has better coffee, and also has fewer staff behind the counter with piercings that make them look like fishing lures.

Brokaw said that he wears the flag in his heart. If he wears the flag on his lapel is signals support for whatever this administration is doing at the time.

The commentary was up on the MRC website.

Thanks for the reminder! Many MSM employees got involved in the "show the Flag" controversy.. some refused to "take sides" vis-a-vis the 9/11 attacks and the few who wore American Flag pins on air were criticized for it.

Some MSM employees argued that outrage against the 9/11 attackers be limited to the WTC attacks, the Pentagon was a military target.

The Pentagon attack? Journalists should not take a position that the attack was was right or wrong, said some MSM employees.

Here
