Group protests Redford's stand against oil, gas drilling
Deseret News ^ | Dec. 31, 2008 | Lee Davidson

A civil rights group says it is organizing protests against actor Robert Redford for what it says is his political role as the Grinch who is hurting low-income families by fighting oil and gas drilling in Utah.

"If Robert Redford succeeds in blocking natural gas production in Utah, it's going to hurt a lot of people on the other end of the pipeline — especially low-income families who are struggling to pay their heating bills," said Niger Innis, national chairman of the Congress of Racial Equality.

Innis said CORE and the High Impact Leadership Coalition are launching a "Don't Freeze Us Out" campaign that will seek to organize churches, civil rights groups, consumer groups and others "to fight Redford and self-styled environmental groups that are working to constrict supplies of natural gas and other energy resources,"

"We are not going to stand by as Robert Redford tries to slow the flow of home heating fuel from the Rockies and drive up home heating prices to millions of Americans in his lust for environmental headlines,"

Innis said at that rally, "Environmental extremists and their allies in the media ..."

"The Hollywood crowd likes to pontificate in front of the cameras to show their love for the environment, but what they are actually doing is leading a 'war on the poor' by constricting energy supply and encouraging prices to go higher."

Yup, we should listen to the actor’s pronouncements on drilling. He achieved this expertise through all of those science courses he took in acting school.

Robert Redford can develop a ski resort, bulldoze the mountain for ski runs, and then tell the rest of us how bad we are for the environment.

The group’s name is Congress of Racial Equality, so I assumed it’s another looney left fringe group. Lo and behold, they have argued their point to be self-independent to a rich liberal like Redford which is ironic.

Hey, didn’t Exxon and Conoco come out with all those critical comments about Redford’s acting...?

“...it’s going to hurt a lot of people on the other end of the pipeline...”

Do they really think that Pobert Redford cares? I am amazed how many people prefer to live in a dream world.

Dear CORE:

Did you honestly think for one minute that the Robert Redfords ever gave a rat’s ass about you?

Just like those “poverty assistance centers” he proposed in “The Candidate,” it’s all just fiction.

Since 1968, CORE has been led by National Chairman, Roy Innis, who initially led the organization to strongly support Black Nationalism. However, subsequent political developments within the organization led it turn more towards the right. CORE supported the presidential candidacy of Richard Nixon in 1968 and 1972.

Recently, on same sex marriage and black health in the U.S.: “When you say to society at large that you have to accept, not only accept our lifestyle, but promote it and put it on the same plane and equate it with traditional marriage, that’s where we draw the line and we say ‘no.’

“Robert Redford can develop a ski resort, bulldoze the mountain for ski runs, and then tell the rest of us how bad we are for the environment.”

As I recall sonme years ago Redford, or his ranch or business or whatever, was cited for redirecting a river in UT to his benefit. Perhaps someone remembers the details and will provide them.

Not that it matters, of course. Redford is a movie star and thus, being far above the common herd, can do whatever he wants with the enviroment whenever he wants. Plus he cares. Lots. Just ask him. He’ll tell you (endlessly) how much he cares, and that, as it always does with Libtards, excuses everything.

Just what is it with these “journalists”?

They go to Robert Redford for a pronouncement on oil and gas drilling?

It is no wonder that the drive by media is floundering!

Back in the 1960’s CORE was the furthest left of the three major Civil Rights organizations. The others were the Urban League and the NAACP. The Innis have moved it a long way.

They are NOT a loony left group. Niger and his father, Roy Innis, are conservatives who believe in TRUE equality.

....this smells like a put on to me....like something you would read in The Onion or Iowa Hawk...Redfort is an icon of the Left...besides I have a hard time imagining where CORE would round up enough black people in Utah to put on a decent demonstration at say Sundance.

Au contraire, Niger Innis, national chairman of the Congress of Racial Equality. is a friend and regular guest on the Sean Hannity Show. He seems to have his head on straight and understands what needs to be done.
