Another Soldier Being Unfairly Prosecuted by the Army
12/14/08 | P.J. Tobia

Another hero (American soldier) needs help. A decorated Army Ranger Captain has been charged with "abusing detainees" for trying to gain information from local spies operating within his base. He shot his pistol into the ground 20 yards from a blindfolded detainee (deemed a "mock execution") and faces life in prison.

This is after having his men ambushed on multiple occasions as a result of the spies. On at least one ocassion after an ambush a dead soldier's heart was removed and his fingers sold in the local marketplace.

Here is an initial story in the Washington Post about the event which happened this past August and the recent hearing: A War's Impossible Mission

Here is today's story from his local newspaper indicating the result - a "less than honorable discharge": Local soldier accused of wrongdoing in Iraq

For more information about this hero, including older stories that precede this event, just do a search on "Roger Hill Afghanistan".

While the result is not nearly as bad as what he could have received, it is still wrong. I will be contacting my congressman and senator directly on behalf of him and the others charged with him to ask them to intervene in any possible way to have him completely reinstated. If you are so inclined, please join in the effort by writing your congressman or writing your local paper.

I have never met this soldier, but from talking with friends of his family who have spent time with him, this is a complete injustice. Especially after reading the story and seeing that he was forced to take so-called "drastic" measures because somebody up the chain of command refused to support him and his men by simply taking the spies into custody according to the established rules.

We need men like this in our military and we are instead neutering them and punishing them because of ridiculous constraints devised by someone who . . . never mind, you know what I mean.

To those who say there are no rules of war, there is only one: You better not lose.

The end result of all this nonsense is that American troops will get into the “no prisoners” mindset, which is the opposite result from what a sensible application of the rules would lead to.

I hate the POS ROE"s sometimes. Anyone, ANYONE on the front watching his men( and women) getting pinged and dinged daily by leaks needs to take the battle as hard to the enemy, harder even than they are to us ot the battle is lost.

And back home some dink linker is laughing "Game over...(except it's NOT a game)" mummy and dahddy are senators and I'm a code pinko move on, oh my poor emailing pen pal Ahmad habibi" i know, I'll call the ACLU and tell them we're married and homosexual...."

Time to break out the top secret Sex Pistols backward on Thursday night when the Imam's are doinking the boys, take some photos and post them in downtown Kabul during Ramadan, fly leaflets over their Meccan holy black rock and send them 50,000,000 Holy Bibles the Qur'an Mao's red Book and a couple copies of penthouse ( Readers Digest unabridged version), and see just how tolerant they are

Meanwhile back in Freeperland home of the realist, cynical, sarcastic, sometimes funny but a realist.....arghhhhhh why does the media always make our hero's out to look like warmongering scum.....okay, I'm cooling off for a bit, gonna go sit in a hail storm eating ice cream...
