In another clip from the same January 2008 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle in which Barack Obama promised to bankrupt anyone foolish enough to build coal-burning power plants, he also made an interesting admission about his entire energy plan. Obama told the editors that his policies would make energy prices skyrocket as the energy industry passed along the exorbitant costs of his cap-and-trade policy:
AUDIO AT LINK
The problem is not technical, uh, and the problem is not mastery of the legislative intricacies of Washington. The problem is, uh, can you get the American people to say, This is really important, and force their representatives to do the right thing? That requires mobilizing a citizenry. That requires them understanding what is at stake. Uh, and climate change is a great example.
You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because Im capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.
They you you can already see what the arguments will be during the general election. People will say, Ah, Obama and Al Gore, these folks, theyre going to destroy the economy, this is going to cost us eight trillion dollars, or whatever their number is. Um, if you cant persuade the American people that yes, there is going to be some increase in electricity rates on the front end, but that over the long term, because of combinations of more efficient energy usage, changing lightbulbs and more efficient appliance, but also technology improving how we can produce clean energy, the economy would benefit.
If we cant make that argument persuasively enough, you you, uh, can be Lyndon Johnson, you can be the master of Washington. Youre not going to get that done.
Why is this freak even still in the running?!
I’m sorry that more wasn’t made of this earlier. It should have been hit hard at the debates, when Obama and Biden claimed that they favored coal and nuclear.
Yes, as one comments says, McCain favored global warming and cap-and-trade as recently as last spring. But I THINK he has wised up, especially when he found how popular “Drill now” is.
But Obama will CERTAINLY do this—not only to appeal to his moonbat base, but because he WANTS to wreck the economy and make us dependent on Arabs and Marxists. That’s the whole point.

Let this be a lesson kids.
Don't smoke crack!
SEND THIS OUT TO DRUDGE NOW!!!!!
Less than 48 hours!!! One final push to save the U.S.A.!
The challenge:
Between NOW and election day, convince at least two Obama/Undecided voters to vote for McCain. (family, neighbors, friends, people waiting in the check-out line) Further, convince these two people (or two others) to take up the same challenge. (Like a chain letter)
So you have converted people in the past? Good, but we need more!
Many Obama supporters are mindlessly supporting him, with no real reason, this means it is VERY easy to get them to switch over. Even if you fail, other Obama/undecideds may be in the room and hear valid arguments and question their faith in the One.
Don’t kick yourself a week from now saying “I could’ve done more....”
Do your part...your country depends on it!
Only problem is that New Technology by definition is something that has not been invented yet. It is not for sale at any price. This idiot thinks just because he has billions to throw around New Technology will just suddenly appear to be purchased!
Kinda like burning down your house so that you can buy a new warmer one with the insurance money in the dead of winter. Forgetting of course that it will take a month for the paper work to go through the insurance company.
Sleeping in the snow sucks for your family you know.
But then, Obama will not be touched by the depression he is working so hard to create, he will only be empowered by it. So I guess it is worth it to him and his Socialist Party.
Shades of Jimmy Carter. Break out your sweaters, sit in the dark, keep your house so cold you could store a side of beef in your living room, and wipe out your checking account on newer energy efficient appliances.
How some Righteous Wind is More Important than these soundbites really has me Pissed!
THIS NEEDS TO GO OUT TO DRUDGE!
I wish this was better known — he LIKES high energy prices. It forces society into HIS KIND of alternative energy. It MAKES people ride the bus, even if that makes it take two hours to get to work. It MAKES people car-pool. I don’t know what else his marxist @ss approves of — they turn their noses up at most of the energy alternatives.
He said this in January and it’s just getting out now?? Don’t the Republicans have people monitoring this stuff? It should have been used long ago. I’m surprised HRC or other Dems didn’t pounce on it. Now it might be too late.
Ping!!!
Having grown up in a heavily socialist country in Europe, let me spell it out for y’all.
Yes he’s going to make energy prices skyrocket. Because that will mean more income for the government. See, that’s what most Dems don’t get. If you make over $120,000 your tax rate goes up. That is just the BEGINNING of it. Energy prices will be next, and then they will dream up a whole plethora of brandnew taxes that have never existed before. So get ready for $7/gallon gas. This is all sooooo predictable.
Oh, maybe he then says to hang your clothes out for free? Ask your HOA about that, assuming you don't live on the thrid floor of a cheap apartment building, where even if you cold hang them out on the roof, they would be stolen or vandalized before they were dry.
OTOH, how many cash strapped people are going to spend ("invest" in Lib-speak) money they don't have to replace an "inefficient" 3-5 year old fridge or freezer that is working perfectly well...for a 'pay back' that takes longer than the expected life span of the appliance?
Yep; changing light bulbs and keeping your tire pressure correct is going to solve all our energy problems.
Nobody can now say they weren’t warned...
>>Why is this freak even still in the running?!<<
Because he has an unpopular war, and financial collapse. otherwise, even John McCain could beat him.
PLEASE PEOPLE, GET THIS OUT TO THE NEWS MEDIA
“Because Im capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.”
Heat or food? And the Republicans were going to take the food from the mouths of the unwashed.
“Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad.””
This attitude is in the midst of demanding that the auto companies retool and build electric cars that take us no more than 80 miles at a whack.
The auto companies will be bankrupt.
The workers will not be able to get to work.
The trees will be gone because everyone will be using wood to heat their houses.
Starvation will occur because the refrigeration units won’t work and food stocks will spoil.
There will be a never-ending list of trouble.
ATLAS SHRUGGED!!!!!
Where is John Galt?

The financial collapse was born, nurtured, engineered and triggered by the Democraps.
Here is an item posted by Calpernia which relates to the coal/carbon credit scheme in Chicago:

A NJ reporter was on the our local radio last night. He was reporting on a meeting Gov. Jon Corzine was in. Corzine is working Obamas campaign. Word is Corzine is promised a high level position in the Treasury in an Obama Presidency. Corzine was former CEO of Goldman Sachs. The reporter said that Corzine told his Wall Street buddies that this financial crash will be fixed in an Obama admnistration. No details on how though.
I DO know that Maurice Strong is involved with Chicagos Climate Exchange. Al Gore is chairman of a private equity firm called Generation Investment Management. That firm invests money from institutions and wealthy investors in companies that are going green. Generation Investment Management purchases carbon dioxide offsets. The co-founder of Generation Investment Management is former Goldman Sachs CEO Hank Paulson, who is currently the Secretary of the U.S. Treasury. Goldman Sachs bought 10% of Chicagos Climate Exchange shares for $23 million. Chicagos Climate Exchange owns half of the European Climate Exchange, Europes largest carbon trading company.

SERIOUSLY.

I am still amazed at how much the Dems trot out “changing light bulbs” as if it’s that easy.
thanks a lot, Mr. Bush
FREEPERS, Write Drudge.
NOW
At least he was truthful about what will happen to electricity costs.
The greens always pretend efficiency will do it alone or that all the taxes will be paid by the evil corporations.
Sorry, homeowners will have to pay to 50% to 100% more for their electricity if the Greens and Obama do what they want to do.
OT, but didn’t know where else to put this quite yet:
Obama is campaigning live right now, and he said something like, “Usually I meet with important people...blah blah...but today I’m meeting with 2 people (mentions their names).” In other words, whoever those 2 people are are not “important.”

**THIS IS NOT INTENDED AS AN INSULT BUT,

We Americans have always been known Not to do things HALFWAY. Since the Marxist Liberal LEFT has had control of EDUCATION in this country, they’ve had 40 years or so of pushing their agenda.
Obama KNOWS what he’s doing, but others his age have been indoctrinated, not educated..
You’re Absolutely Right,
WE’RE F****D!!
Could not be better stated.
The San Fran Chronicle left it out of their original story, that is why it is just coming out today when 39% of the voters have voted already. Send to everyone you know and concentrate on getting it to all your local news stations.
