PLEASE HELP: I NEED TO RESPOND TO CHARGES ABOUT DIEBOLD MACHINES AND THE "THEFT OF OHIO" IN 2004

Posted on 10/14/2008 6:18:12 AM PDT by MrChips

Hi all. Please excuse the vanity. But we are having a mock election at school today, run by a liberal history teacher, and when I joked about prnting up extra ballots stamped with the words "APPROVED BY ACORN" he violently assaulted me with "In 2004 the head of Diebold (voting machines) said 'We can win Ohio for Bush'." I dismissed it, saying "well that does not make right what ACORN is doing now. But, he continued on his point. Of course, this is the same fellow, when I passed him in the hallway the morning after the vice-presidential debate and simply quipped "Say it ain't so, Joe," with a twinkle in my eye, who practically tore my head off. Liberals have no sense of humor. We know that. But, I still need information about the Diebold thing in Ohio four years ago. Can anyone help?

I do believe the president of Diebold said something to that effect for the election that year.

However, it was at a campaign fund raiser and he was a personal donor, talking on behalf of supporters.

Just tell him that it’s true Diebold has all the power and it’s pointless for him to show up at the polls to vote in November.

Yes, it was an unfortunate phrasing, i think something like “we will do whatever it takes” which, coming from the guy who’s making the vote-counting machines does have some Orwellian overtones. But he meant it in terms of “let’s write some big checks” not, “let’s corrupt Democracy”

I still don’t like computerize voting, but all vote counting mechanisms have these flaws, and computers probably less so, since you can usually look at the programs if you are concerned. Anyway I think that is the story.

On the serious side, not every county in Ohio uses Diebold machines. Not every ballot in Ohio will look alike. Heck the different districts will ALL BE DIFFERENT! How does a machine know which position is a Republican or a Democrat or Libertarian? The idiots who came up with this stupid theory never answer any true logic based questions. That “teacher” is an even bigger idiot to believe such drivel. I hope he doesn’t teach math...................

I feel the best are the ones that are optical with markers used to fill in the ballot.

Those are easy to read by hand for confirmation, while the computer-only ones have nothing left to truly confirm.

Demand HE show YOU the evidence, otherwise just dismiss it as a conspiracy theory. Don’t let him toss out a vague conspiracy theories as fact and expect YOU to debunk them. He’s the one with the unproven conspiracy theory - call him on promoting conspiracy rather than teaching facts. Don’t accept HIS premise. I expect he thinks Florida was “stolen” in 2000 too but there’s no evidence to support this myth either. Is he also a “truther”?

I don’t know about Ohio; but here are some of my notes.

Diebold AccuVote TS

John Diebold business visionary who preached computerization during the ‘50s as the future of worldwide industry and was now hailed as a prophet of the computerized future. Diebold laid out his vision in his book Automation (1952), which presented the then-radical notion of using programmable devices in daily business, and headed the consulting firm John Diebold & Associates, which has provided advice to AT&T, IBM, Boeing, and Xerox, along with the cities of Chicago and New York and the countries of Venezuela and Jordan. He died of esophageal cancer in Bedford Hills, New York on December 26, 2005.

Name/Model: AccuVote-TS
Vendor: Diebold Election Systems

Brief Description:
The AccuVote-TS is likely the widest-deployed of all of Diebold’s voting systems. It is a smart-card activated multilingual touchscreen system that records votes on internal flash memory. Voters insert a “smart-card” into the machine and then make their choices by touching an area on a computer screen, much in the same way that modern ATMs work. The votes are then recorded to internal electronic memory. When polls close, the votes for a particular machine are written to a PCMCIA card which is removed from the system and either physically transported to election headquarters or their contents transmitted via computer network.

Detailed Voting Process:

When the voter enters the precinct, he or she is given a “smart-card” by a poll worker after confirming the voter is registered. A “smart-card” is a card the size and shape of a credit-card which contains a computer chip, some memory and basic data such as the voter’s voting language and political party. The voter then takes the smart-card to a voting machine and inserts the smart-card into the machine to allow voting. After using the touchscreen to vote,

1) the record of the vote is directly recorded electronically to multiple, internal flash memory cards and

2) the voter’s smart-card is reset to ensure that it can only be used to vote once. The smart-card pops out of the machine with a loud “click” and the voter returns it to a poll worker.

When the polls close, a poll worker or election official inserts a different-type of smart-card, an administrator card, into each voting machine and puts the machine into a post-election mode where it will no longer record votes. At this point, the machine writes the votes from its internal memory to flash memory on a “PCMCIA card”. The PCMCIA card is merely a removable form of flash memory. A printed tape of all votes cast or vote totals for the voting machine can also be printed out at this time depending on local procedure and regulations.

The PCMCIA cards are taken out of each machine and either taken to a central tabulation facility or to remote tabulation facilities. At the tabulation facility the votes are read out of the PCMCIA cards and into a central computer database where precincts are combined to result in an aggregate vote. For remote facilities, the votes are transmitted to the central tabulation facility via a closed “Intranet”, the Internet or modem. The PCMCIA cards and any printouts from the voting machines can then become part of the official record of the election.

Past Problems:

March 2004: California. 55% of precincts in San Diego county experienced malfunctions due to battery problems that prevented polling places from opening on time. Voters were told to return later in the day but it is unknown how many were able to do so.[1]

March 2004: Maryland. At least one voter using Diebold election equipment was not presented with the entire ballot. Poll workers indicated that they knew of such errors when the ballot magnification feature was activated.[2]

November 2003: Georgia. Allegations of widespread complaints by citizens who voted “no” on a sales tax proposition but saw Diebold machines register “yes” caused county officials to take the machine out of service during the election.[3]

April 2002: Kansas. In Johnson County, an unexplained software error caused voting machines to miscount votes. Some modems used to transmit results from polling places to the central election office failed. After this latter incident, cartridges that record results are hand-delivered to the office. Also, results were misreported in six races. The system miscounted hundreds of votes, and a re-count was ordered.[4]

November 2002: Maryland. When voters voted for the Republican candidate for governor, an X appeared beside the name of the Democratic candidate.[5]

come back at him with this....

5 charged in GOP tire slashings
2 sons of prominent Democrats among those charged in tire slashings

Five Kerry-Edwards campaign staffers, including the sons of two prominent Milwaukee Democrats, were charged Monday with the election day tire slashings of 25 get-out-the-vote vehicles rented by Republicans.

Proof of real election fraud, not some side joke made by the Diebold dude.

Keep it simple, and ask him if he has actual proof of direct involvement by Diebold.

If he goes on past that ask him if he will defend democrats in Cleveland that right now are registering and bussing homeless people to the polls. To make matters worse they are giving the illiterate ones a sheet of paper with Barack O’Bama on it to make sure they can recognize that in the booth.

hope that ammo helps.

Tell him that he is making an allegation that is so stupid that even Snopes will not cover it.

The proof is in the congressional pudding.

The Democrats have held Congress and its powers for some time, they have not investigated the Ohio fraud. They have gone to unconstitutional lengths in their investigations and have not brought Diebold forward.

This leaves two possibilities:
1. nothing is there.
2. they have bought off Diebold for this election

Just for fun tell him that vote fraud is very serious...AND that Bush has a responsibility to stop the election until Obama’s Acorn mess is cleaned up. That should get him howling.

Here’s an article I wrote that was published in the North Carolina Conservative a couple of years ago. I don’t know if Diebold has made any changes.
NCC Jan 06
VOTING MACHINE DIRT AND THEN SOME

The chairman and CEO of Diebold resigned the middle of December, following many complaints of their voting machines over the last few years. One complaint is that their machines are inaccurate. It looks like what finally did him in was a recently filed stockholders’ lawsuit. Among other things, the suit alleges that the Company remained unable to assure the quality and working order of its voting machines. The suit alleges that the Company concealed the scope of internal problems, leading to false representations of astonishingly low and incredibly inaccurate restructuring charges for the 2005 fiscal year. And a couple of days before Christmas, Diebold pulled out of the bidding to sell their machines in North Carolina. How did they get in such a sad position? Let’s take a look at what our Board of Elections tried to sell us:

In 2002, Diebold bought Global Election Systems, which then became Diebold Election System. Global was founded by three men, one of whom spent a year in prison for fraud against the Canadian government and was part of the collapse of the Vancouver stock exchange. He was first convicted in 1974 for political corruption. Another of the founders was jailed for stock fraud, tax evasion, and money laundering. The last of the trio defrauded Chinese immigrants and sold the real estate that had been posted as bond to bail out one of the jailed partners.

The staffer who handled the ballot printing for Global was a convicted cocaine trafficker. He brought into the company a fellow former inmate who had been in the slammer for computer-aided embezzlement. The embezzler became the lead programmer for the Global Election Systems’ vote-tally product that is still in use. By late 2000, Global’s voting system contained the first double set of books problem where all votes are recorded twice internally and don’t need to match. It appears to hide some forms of vote fraud. The guy quit when Diebold took over, but was then hired right back as a consultant.

There are lawsuits galore in other states regarding Diebold voting equipment…such as, the machines are prone to glitches, software flaws, and are vulnerable to hackers. Leon County, Florida (Tallahassee) election officials recently conducted tests using Diebold equipment in which hackers were invited to take their best shot. Eight votes were put into the computers…Yes: 2 No: 6. After the hackers did their thing, the results came out Yes: 7 No: 1. Apparently the equipment needed to hack and change votes can be easily purchased off the internet. Also, temporary employees with brief access to memory cards can have all kinds of fun messing things up. According to BlackBoxVoting.org, a great site if you want the nuts and bolts of fraudulent computer voting, memory cards are held in a compartment protected by a small plastic seal. But the memory cards can be reprogrammed without disturbing the seal simply by using the telephone modem port on the back of the machine. It is possible to enter the computer, alter election results, and exit the system without leaving any physical record of the action. The test demonstrated that false information or instructions could be placed on the memory card.

Is it any wonder that the Board of Elections (Chairman Larry Leake [see NCC Feb 05] is himself under investigation) selected Diebold as one of the three voting machines from which the counties must purchase? The BOE hired a former Diebold employee to “assist them in picking voting machines.” Leake’s buddy to whom he had contributed campaign funds, former state senator Steve Metcalf, who resigned his senate seat after he disgrace himself, is a lobbyist for Diebold.

Now we have Superior Court Judge Ripley Rand’s ruling against Joyce McCoy (North Carolina Coalition for Verified Voting) in her suit that complained the BOE approved voting machines that did not jibe with the law. Rand, of course, is the son of Senate Majority Leader Tony Rand, who is Senate President Pro Tem Marc Basnight’s right-hand man…the man who determines which bills go to the floor of the senate for debate, and one of the original Gang of Seven (Liston Ramsey and Billy Watson [who referred to themselves as the two little governors], Martin Nesbitt, Tony Rand, Jimmy Green, and a couple of others I can’t remember). Among other committees, Senator Rand is Chairman of the Rules and Operation of the Senate, Chairman of the Select Committee on the Lottery and the Department of Commerce. The fed are currently focusing on the lottery and the Department of Commerce. Apparently, Governor Easley covered all the bases in 2002, when he assigned Judge Rand to handle both civil and criminal cases in any judicial district in North Carolina. He can go anywhere, do anything.

To bring you up-to-date in Leake-run Madison County, I hear that Sam Parker is getting ready to be sworn-in as head of the county Board of Elections. Back in the 1980s, Parker was the chairman of the Housing Authority. It was corrupt from stem to stern and the citizens were screaming. Leake told the county commissioners, “Rather than finding fault with Sam Parker, the Executive Director of the Housing Authority itself, I would instead have to extend to them my congratulations for a well-run program.” The feds showed up and took a close look at this “well-run program”. Among many other things they reported, “We are extremely concerned about the poor operation of the PHA [Public Housing Authority].” The entire Section 8 program had to be completely over-hauled. The books could not be balanced…etc., etc., etc. The feds forced Parker to resign after which he laid low for two or three years until Leake put him on with Probation/Parole. The county can go to hell, but he always takes care of his boys. Now, Parker is going to head up the board of elections. Diebold or not, Madison‘s elections will still be questionable at best..

Ohio didn’t use Diebold voting machines in 2004. Some Ohio counties did use voting machines but they weren’t Diebold machines.

As a matter of fact, 70% of Ohio counties used paper ballots in 2004.

Kerry lost Ohio in 2004 because of his stand on 2nd amendment issues. Rural Ohio voters don’t like gun grabbers. Obama! and Biden are going to learn that fact this year.

I don’t have any links for these assertions but I live in Ohio and I know these facts.

As a private citizen, the guy can say anything he wants. It was coincidental that he backed Bush.

The rats ran with it to infer that the machines his company made were rigged. The entire sordid mess has been vetted as being totally bogus, and the machines were fine, but State after State were forced to get rid of them, even though many were still in the original shipping containers and some had not even been paid for by your tax money.

This effort by the Democrats to destroy confidence in the voting system not only cost us hundreds of millions in wasted money, it destroyed confidence in the voting system and we have yet to recover.

In the end, I think the entire system is going to collapse and we could proceed to violent anarchy. This is exactly the inference and threat made by the Democrat Party if they don't win big and restated again in this election recently by Obama advisor's. We win, or the country burns!!!!!

If you want to call that a fair election, then I am not sure what fair is anymore. The diebold machines could not be set to cast votes for Bush or anyone else and it was all a pack of lies and distortions. Most of the election boards involved were run by democrats and all the so called machine malfunctions could be traced to human error on their part. In my county some of them went home in the middle of the election or failed to show up.

This entire country has both feet in a deep hole, and the Democrat Party apparatus has put us there. One more good push and we go to town..............and I would not give you a plug nickle for the life of any liberal from the left coast to the Eastern seaboard.

You can tell your liberal pantywaist professor that I said that and I'm pointing my finger right at him. It's way past time to clean house and he can decided for himself what that means.

http://www.ohiogop.org/press/articles/2008/10/activist-group-advising-brunner-admits-ohio-election-fraud

Cincinnati Enquirer, 10/23/04: Cuyahoga County election officials are investigating more than a thousand possible fraudulent voter registrations - including one for Jive Turkey Sr. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Friday that the name is one in a string of fake names on new voter rolls. Others include Dick Tracy, Mary Poppins and Michael Jordan in Defiance County.

The Columbus Dispatch, 9/8/04: A part-time worker signing up new voters for a local community group has been indicted by a Franklin County grand jury on charges he forged a registration form. ... The charges stem from an investigation that began in May after the Franklin County Board of Elections discovered dozens of voter registration forms with fake names or false information. They were submitted by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, which paid workers bonuses based on the number of voters they registered.

The Columbus Dispatch, 6/3/04: A nonprofit group registering low-income and minority voters in Franklin County has fired two temporary workers thought to be the source of fake names and forged signatures on official registration forms. ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also has agreed to perform extra checks on forms turned in by its voter-registration workers before submitting them to the Franklin County Board of Elections, the group’s head organizer said yesterday.

“Well, I tell you what, it helps in Ohio that we’ve got Democrats in charge of the machines.”

CLEVELAND — Thousands of people who are registered voters in Ohio and Florida possibly could vote twice in the presidential election through use of absentee ballots, The Plain Dealer reported Sunday. An investigation of voter rolls in the two key battleground states found that some double voting has occurred previously and could go undetected Tuesday, the newspaper said. Many states have only just begun to compile statewide voter registration lists to comply with a 2002 federal voting law. Such lists allow state officials to find double registrations within a state, but states rarely coordinate with one another. Virtually nothing prevents...

I couldn’t find this posted anywhere nor does it appear on Drudge’s site, but on his radio show tonight, he was citing a report that in some Ohio counties, there were more people registered to vote than there were citizens in those counties per the latest census. When asked how this could be, the democrats (I believe) replied that more people moved into those counties after the census.

The lead for the US Government on technical analysis of voting machines is the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). They have a very informative website that should help you in your debate. http://vote.nist.gov/

U.S. voting-machine shocker: Does Hugo Chavez own ‘em?
WorldNetDaily ^ | October 28, 2006
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1727931/posts

WASHINGTON – Just 10 days before Americans vote in midterm congressional elections that could result in a historic shift of power, the federal government is investigating whether anti-American Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez may control the company that operates electronic voting machines in 17 states.

Many questions have been raised about the reliability of the new machines, which leave no paper trails for the purposes of recounts. But now federal officials are investigating whether Smartmatic, owner of Sequoia Voting Systems, is secretly controlled by the Castroite revolutionary leader of Venezuela who denounced President Bush as Satan in his most recent United Nations address, the Miami Herald reports.

An informal investigation of Smartmatic’s ownership begun last summer has, the paper reveals, become a formal probe.

Are you running a vanity to defend ACORN? They are the cheaters. The real question should be have the people of ACORN ever cheated to get extra votes? AND THE ANSWER IS YES. THEY SIGNED UP MICKEY MOUSE FOR GOD'S SAKE.

Then ask, have Repubicans ever done that ? AND THE ANSWER IS NO. We don't cheat. They cheat. We might "talk" but we don't cheat.
