Remember Alan Keyes?
My seething mind | 01 Oct 2008 | Moi

Posted on 10/01/2008 7:18:36 PM PDT by A_perfect_lady

I was just on a website reviewing the various proposals that Californians will be voting for next month, and I clicked on their "President" link. Lo and behold, I see that after Obama and McCain, the next name that will actually appear on the ticket is Alan Keyes, running as an American Independent.

I think he's a little extreme, but I'm considering casting a protest vote for him, if only to send the message "I am not happy with our current GOP choice." Now, before you tell me I'm throwing my vote away, consider: I live in California, land of fruit loops. Our electoral votes are going to Che Obama no matter what I do. Those of you who also live in hopeless states might also consider helping Keyes at least make a showing.

Yes, of course I'd rather McCain than Obama.

But McCain just voted for this bailout. And I needn't list the many times he's "mavericked" his way across the aisle, to our detriment.

I think I'll vote for Alan Keyes.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

What culture do you come from where you expect someone to apologize for stating a simple fact. Keyes and Hillary are the only to PROVEN losers against Obama.

That's a baseless comment. He answered the call against insurmountable odds. In fact, I voted for him ( Keyes that is. ) I think he'd make a great Senator ( ahem. )

He lost to Obama and has lost every other time I can think of

You’re not very knowledgable of past or present Illinois politics are you?

I'm sorry. Am I wrong that Keyes lost to Obama? Can you point me to an elective office that keys has won?

I’m voting for either Keyes or Baldwin. Haven’t decided which for certain, but am leaning towards Baldwin.

Bob Barr is pro ACLU.

In my culture, people are given their due. In my culture, it's the effort made, not the outcome that determines value. In my culture, attempts at sardonic humor should be humorous, not just cutting and mean.

You don't have to apologize. Obviously in your culture, you are allowed to make assumptions and to blame others, to always be right and have the last word. Are you sure you're a real conservative?

How you vote is up to you. However, in 2006 we had a lot of people who didn’t vote because they wanted to send a message.

Well, my point (one of them) is that because I live in California, my vote will be unlikely to hurt McCain. I wouldn't recommend this to those living in swing states.

As I said...you’re not very knowledgable of Illinois politics. Before making blanket statements you should do a little research of the 2004 IL Senate election.

I am voting for Alan Keyes, not as a protest vote, but because I believe he is the best man for the job, the best man to secure our Constitutional rights and liberties, maintain our national sovereignty, and secure this nation from all foreign enemies.

On the idea of wasting votes, Dr. Keyes said, “I believe you waste your vote any time you vote for wickedness, any time you vote in a way departs from what you deeply and conscientiously believe to be God’s will in what’s right and what’s just, that’s a wasted vote. Because I judge my vote not in light of whether you win or lose, but whether you’re standing where God wants you to stand and if you are you are the victor ‘cause He’s the only judge that ultimately matters. And success with Him is the only success that ultimately matters.”

There is no "wasting," "throwing away," or "stealing" of votes if some self-proclaimed "Maverick" never earned your vote. Vote your conscience.

>> McCain has already promised Democrats in his cabinet. Ask G.W. if he even understands how that worked <<

::sigh::

I love how you guys keep repeating this on FR as if it was "shocking". If you guys bothered to crack open a history book, you'd realize EVERY REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT SINCE LINCOLN HAS APPOINTED "DEMOCRATS" TO HIS CABINENT. The only thing shocking would be if McCain became the first President in history to appoint ONLY card-carrying Republicans to every position in his administration.

The GREAT Ronald Reagan appointed lifelong DEMOCRATS Bill Bennett and Lauro Cavazos to HIS cabinet, as well as appointing DEMOCRAT Paul Volcker as Chairman of the Federal Reserve and DEMOCRAT Jeane Kirkpatrick as UN Ambassador.

Shocking, eh? I guess things would have been much better off with President Walter Mondale. Can't stand the thought of having an administration consisting of 5% Democrats so you'd rather an administration with 95% Democrats win.

I can't believe so many idiots on FR are so ignorant about history.
