BREAKING: McCain Shifts His Position on Stem Cells?
Catholic Online ^ | 9/17/08 | Deal W. Hudson

There has been some evidence during the campaign that McCain position on embryonic stem cell research was softening. I was skeptical of drawing any conclusions having discussed it with McCain several times. But now the more optimistic prediction has come to pass

We have Sen. Sam Brownback to thank for this, I am sure.

In response to a questionnaire submitted by ScienceDebat2008, the McCain campaign indicated a McCain administration would continue the present limitations on research instituted by President Bush and would seek to outlaw somatic cell transfer completely.

The scientists quoted in the article are not too happy with McCain's apparent shift on the issue.

Before anyone asks: “somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) is a laboratory technique for creating an ovum with a donor nucleus”.

It’s a key part of embryonic non-adult non-umbilical Mengele-type stemcell research

Given the correct reservations about experimentation on embryonic stem cells (and variants such as SCNT), the respectful course of policy would be to exhaust all avenues that did not raise those red flags, such as adult stem cells.

Yet, it seems that the left (including those who support abortion on demand) actually demand the reverse, to almost prefer embryonic cell research. I can only attribute this willful affront to human dignity as further evidence of the spiritual warfare we being waged against humanity.

Hopeful news. I pray this is true. There are a handful of Lefty Catholics I know who’ve been using this issue as an excuse to support Obama. (Paging Doug Kmiec). In a strained bit of moral equivalence, they reason that “well, neither is perfect on the Life issue, so therefore my conscience is free to support Obama.” If true, this leaves those Catholics with no more room for excuses.

I wouldn’t call it breaking. The RNC and Mcacin have been running radio ads here in DC for at least a week touting support for stem cell research.

You're right. Adult stem cell research has already had many successes with the promise of more to come. Embryonic stem cell research is more like satan’s choice: no real success, only the potential...if you don't mind the ethical price you must pay. Obviously, the dims will choose embryonic stem cell research. In this, as with many other issues, I hope McCain makes the right choice.

And Sarah supports it in a case where it jeopardizes the life of the mother...which is logical.

Second time I have seen it. Keep watching! (And praying)

McCain will not support stem cell research when there is so much evidence that adult stem cells are working miracles.

You can say that I am right...which I am. You can use the spelling card as you seem to not have anything else to say. If being grammar/spelling police is more important to you than I applaud you. However, if you want to discuss this important topic of LIFE than get back to me. You get one point for my spelling error...congratulations! I get one point for the life of the baby under any circumstances...one point for me! Yeah us!!! lol.

Logical for people who are not 100 percent pro-life which apparently you are not. For me, it is illogical to kill a baby for any reason. I don't fault you for your beliefs, please do not fault me for mine. We just disagree on this one fact.
